Default PS2 Paintjob

I'm gonna paint my ps2 bright yellow, inspired by this -

I'm going to paint the two main case pieces, and the expansion bay cover and leave the controller ports, memcards, drive door, and the fan/power/AV board black. So, do you think I should keep the blue PS2 characters or just paint over them? What spray paint paint do you recommend? (I only want to use one coat)
Should I sand beforehand?

I think I'm going to use a coat or two of spray paint for plastic, then clear coat.

Default PS2 Paintjob

Just to preface what I'm about to say. I build high-detail scale model cars for people that want a reproduction of their real car. I spend anywhere from 60-80 hours building one model but it pays well enough where it's worth the time. It's fun too.

Naturally, the paint needs to look good. I spent about 6 hours on this paintjob. My steps were...

primer
wetsand
primer
basecoat
wetsand
paint
wetsand
paint
paint
wetsand
paint
clearcoat
wetsand
clearcoat
clearcoat
buff
polish
wax

That sounds like a lot of work, but look at the results. Don't settle for a shitty paintjob because you won't be happy with it in the end.
