Default Buying a new Xbox 360, but a question first.

Hey, I was planning on buying a new Xbox 360 (in Australia) and I was wondering if the brand news ones in the store (EB games) has the latest chips or heating system or whatever in them to help with the prevention of the RRoD. I dont want to get the RRoD or at least minimize my chances of getting it because I bought an Xbox 360 Pro about 2-3 years ago and it broke on me a couple of months ago and I wasn't covered . I hated Microsoft/Xbox ever since and well, I presume you would know why, I mean, after wasting 600 bucks I got on my B-day on something that lasts for 2 years.

But I got so many games and accessories for the xbox I still want to use. So I need to know, are the latest Xbox 360 (Elite preferably) on the shelves in Australia the one with the new chips (Jasper I believe)? Whats the chance of me getting the RRoD with this new Xbox? Thanks for any detailed info and help. I dont want to waste anymore money on something I already bought before

Supposedly the problem has been fixed in this latest motherboard revision. I'll believe it when I see numbers in about a year and a half or so...

Just buy the in-store warranty for it. I spent $20 for the in-store warranty on my PS2 that I bought new in '01. It was the best $20 I ever spent since the early PS2's had some issues. It eventually replaced 4 consoles for me, no questions asked.

well the jasper is the latest chipset, they were supposed to be rrod proof, but there are confirmed cases of rrod in jasper, so it hasnt completely been fixed yet. the best way to know if your getting the newest chipset, look at the serial number sticker, every xbox 360 has the hole cut out in the box, in the bottom left corner of the sticker it should read 12v 12.1a, if its a jasper, 12v 14.2a if its falcon

But even though Jasper still gets the RRoD, it has a lower chance right?? Or is it just to lure more customers?

well its to early to tell if its as bad, but it should definitely run cooler, rrod isnt just from heat, heat plays a big part but its just poor design, they wouldve been better off making the gpu separate from the motherboard and using a pci express type slot or interface, it would allow them to break the board in sections, its just to much heat concentrated on the middle of a board that big.
