The unique CF - SATA HDD Adapter is designed to enable Compact Flash (CFI/II) media to be used as a direct replacement for a 2.5" SATA hard drive. As a result, any equipment, such as Notebook computer, that uses a 2.5" SATA hard drive can be easily converted to use the low power and shock resistant CF media, just like a SATA solid state drive (SSD). Once installed, the CF appears as an ordinary SATA hard drive to any OS and can be configured as a boot device.

theres also a double to use 2 cf cards for better storage, same 2.5 size

    places to buy them at

http://www.amazon.com/Sata-Hard-Driv.../dp/B000RA54YK $30.23 free shipping single adapter

i ran into this and this seems like a good alternative.also u can find compact flash cards 1 tb or more.i do beleive this should work fine

note:1 tb are not out yet but are in development so right now this harddrive alternative is useless, but in the longrun it wont be

Would this contraption save on heat and power I presume?

    EDIT: not even financialy feasible...

I do however see the benefits of it though.

its 30 bucks for the device and yes its much cooler than a harddrive and can hold greater capacity like i said.i havent priced the cost of the compact flashcards themselves but for 30 bucks for a single and get a 1 tb cf or less than 90 for a dual and get 2 1 tb compact flash,u should save alot of money as far as harddrives go i do beleive

Why not just put a sata > esata cable to the PS3 then use an extrenal 3.5 case. 2TB for about $130 to $150
