I'm buying a PS3 and would like you to tell me what are the pros and cons of hacking it.

(Also, do I need any device to hack it?)

Pros: Emulators, ISO support, Homebrew. There will be more "pros" as time progresses.
Cons: Certain people on this forum will despise you for no reason, Sony may be able to ban your PSN/PS3.

Will Sony ban for hacking overall or just if you cheat? It's not an automatic permaban like with XBox live?

i would say if you cheat or play a pirated copy online, those are the easiest ways to caught.

you know what, do whatever the hell you want with your consoles...wow, emulators are always the main "reason" to hack the ps3, not the ability now to steal the games without buying them or anything...making hack codes, stealing legit gamers' achievements, faking yours, etc.

with the newer updates coming out already, people are being banned...when i wanna play my actual atari games, my original atari still works, along with my snes and nes. so i say pfffffft to the emulator spoof to hack it...that's why you now see on torrent sites, ps3 hacking sites as well people asking will it play this, or can i use cwcheat for this/that.

game for real, game legit...cheat/hack, hope you're permabanned.

edit...to the op...once you get your ps3 and attempt to make a psn account it, you will need the latest update for that and yes they can permaban your ip's and mac just like Live.

I don't really care about online play as I don't have time for it. Just want to play Final Fantasy etc. Plus I'm sure there will be an unofficial online play service.

So do I need any device to hack it? How large a HDD do you recommend for maybe 10 games? I see FF is 35GB but I guess that's not the norm? Would a USB drive work or must I get an internal HDD?

I'm assuming your a pirate. That's fine, but we don't support piracy here. I'm just letting you know.

Anyway, you don't need any hardware to do the actual hack.

Oh I thought I was still safe since I didn't directly ask about anything? Yeah I sold my PS3 2 years ago since I couldn't afford the games but I'm getting another one now due to recent events.
Would a 320GB do fine for backups or should I get a 750-1TB drive?

Ok anyway for playing backups - what size of HDD do you recommend? I don't think I'd be playing more than 10 games. 320GB should do, right?

Get as big an HDD as you want/can afford. Memory is cheap when it comes to computers/consoles. Realistically, 320GB should be fine.

well ya but game sizes vary on the ps3. some are 6GB some are 50GB so account for the sizes of the games you want.
