    this needs a thread.

it looks like any information you put on your PSN account is not protected. credit card information stored in unencrypted text files it seems. oh dear, some one hacks the PSN and you are pretty much shown. but they are blaming it to be done over the CFW. however server hacking, even on the PSN is not exclusive to the PS3. you can do it on your PC with the right equipment and knowledge. so dont blame CFW solely. it can be done on any system capable. ahh but whatelse, you dont have to be online for info to get sent to sony (then to hacker). this is also very risky.

all and all, it seems sony keeps your info as least protected of their stuff. and you said they cared about their customers.

Report: PSN hacked, custom firmware could pose security risk to users (UPDATED)

im not surprised by this at all. could be true, but sony gave no comment when asked. how many times have they done that? countless times. how many of which were true after all? countless.

however, not just any hacker can get it apparently.
As flaws go, the risks here are not substantial. There is no generalized ability for hackers to grab credit cards from PSN users; only those using specially devised custom firmwares would be at risk. Essentially the same risk could be faced by anyone downloading a pirated version of Windows: extra certificates could be added to those normally trusted, along with suitable DNS entries, to allow interception of any traffic destined for, say, amazon.com. In practice, the risk of either of these is slight, and in any case, trivially avoided: don't use custom firmware.
thing is here, if one guy found it, others can get involed to do what the first guy did and get. their server can be accessed.

whatever...your pc's can get trojans or even back door trojans and virus' that steal all your info, passwords, account #'s...which is why my info isn't stored like that.

anything over the net can hacked...very obvious. just seems like more anti sony bashing and more appraissals towards the hackers online looking to fuck over people.

I'm not surprised with the flaws, just more so that they're so simple encryption is easy to implement, so do so.

There's a lot to be said on trusting a system they said was unhackable, putting a debit card or credit card on the system or any system for that matter has always been a fools mistake. People don't take in account that some one like a little brother or sister what have you can just buy what they want if the card info is correct and if you take the time to look through the purchase agreement there is NO refunds unless prosecuted in court. I had to fight for 2 months to get over charges on my credit card returned because Sony had submitted the purchase 4 times for the same thing, I had to have a special account specialist call my house to prove it was me and still it took another 3 weeks after that call to see anything returned which they did say during the call they had every right not to return it but they would make an exception in this case but it wouldn't happen again.

Never again will I trust a console, I can handle most things on a professional level but not some one messing with my money.

ya ya, its always a risk, but they could atleast try to implement some kind of security.

...Or ignore it. If you don't have a PS3 or PSP, and no sensitive information on your PSN account, there's no reason to worry about it. You need less stress in your life, avis.
