PS3NEWS
The PS3 homebrew community is currently enjoying a growth spurt, but here's a strong reminder to be very careful about what you stick into your console. Someone has created a false PSP emulator for the PS3, wrote up convincing instructions to install it, and has now left a number of PS3 consoles completely bricked.
The faker goes by the name TeamICE and has released the so-called PSP emulator in quite a few forums and hacking communities. The accompanying readme was apparently legit-looking, providing details on how to get PSP games running on a PS3. Those who've tried it out now have bricked consoles.
Be warned, and please be advised.
According to PSGroove.com, Forum user TeamICE has released an alleged 'PSP Emulator' that is reported to be bricking PlayStation 3 consoles.
To quote: "They are showing screenshots and even including a readme which adds to the appearance of legitimacy. Unfortunately, this is not a psp emulator, when ran it actually will brick your PS3 console.
Mathieulh was quick to announce that the EBOOT.BIN is a manufacturing_updater_for_reset.self. Explaining that the jailbreak patches enable the cosole to run any self, no matter the auth ID, run because the function always returns back as true."
Just thought this was fucked up.

Thats all kinds of fucked up. Damn hackers...
damn...yet another proven fact to why i will not mess with my ps3 in any way!! if you wanna play the psp games, ding ding!! get a psp lol

I hate hackers who do stupid shit like that.
^ another useful comment as always.
but thanks for the head's up, DFS. i was just about to post this last night but decided that 3 articles was enough.

another thing...now what happens to these bricked users?? Sony only can repair it i'm guessing and probably will cost a great deal based on the seriousness of it and how it happened...so banishment there too i'd guess.
so not worth it...get a job, buy your ps3 games and live it up!!

did playstation develope this emulator??? To scare people off installing custom firmware / running homebre??
I assume there will be a fix, I wasn't aware of any flashing capabilities on the PS3 yet, so its doubtful that its permaed.

Ok, in the future lets not refer to a forum jackass as a hacker....thats extremely insulting. If this user had any knowledge whatsoever he would know better then to pull shit like that to begin with!
BIO=+-.
i'm staying away from ps3 homebrew, at least until it all settles down. and here i am still thinking of installing OtherOS onto my ps3...
Sounds like a SONY death trap to me, or a wanna-be hacker who loves others pain. Either way only a ideat out rish bricking there $300 ps3 instead of buying a $60 psp to play those games.

Ps3 is fine the way it is no resone to hack, and ban, the console. Their just stupid. *tisk*tisk*
HAHA!
