I don't know what store you got it from, but something I used to do when I had a "un-returnable" item would be to do what you did - in other words, buy a new one. Then, take the old one and put it back in the box of the new item, take it to the store and claim it's defective.
That's assuming that the first was out of warranty or past the store's return period. If the store has a no return policy for opened items, I'd think you could at least get store credit. Then, I'd use that credit to buy a similarly-priced item, take it home for a day, don't open it, then return that item to the store for a cash or credit card refund.
Just a thought - I'd hate to think you couldn't get your money back for something that was out of your control.

some of my UMDS, where the plastic cover is gets pushed in and then won't work i took it to a game store and they said they couldn't fix it after that i got a pair of sharp tweezers and gently poped it back out. i was just wondering if any of you guys had that same problem![]()
nope never to me
you can always buy a replacement part and fix it yourself or see if you can send it off the sony to get it repaired but im guessing you modded your psp so thats not a good idea than
