I wasn't sure which forum this belonged in, so sorry if it is in the wrong one.

I like to watch videos off my PSP on my big screen TV I'm getting frustrated with converting the videos before playing them.

Is there any custom firmware or homebrew or anything at all that would allow me to copy any .avi or .mpg or.wmv onto a PSP slim and watch it without converting it?

And if not is there at least a way to watch an .MP4 file with a custom file name instead of the random garbage the PSP player uses.

Sorry if this has been brought up before, I did a cursory search and couldn't find any info on the site.

yeah we are only talking about a 333mhz MAX CPU here... decoding high(er) resolution XVid on the fly might not even be possible without more power. PSP is designed to play a certain type of Mpeg4 at certain resolutions so you need to convert. It's not to bad I use PSP Video 9 too.

what? so I could download your "average" xvid movie and play it on the PSP? I find this hard to believe or would it still have to be resized to something smaller for the PSP anyway?

I currently use Total Video Converter but I have problems sometimes with the video stopping and the PSP saying it's unplayable. This is very frustrating after you have waited an hour or two for it to convert.

two hours? I can convert a high quality xvid full length movie with PSP Video 9 at high quality video and sound in about half an hour max! You need a faster PC!

I think you can name your MP4 files as anything. I never remember using that random naming scheme, and all my movies worked.
