Okay, so if you read my intro thread, you will know I'm clueless of what to buy when it comes to a PSP, after doing a little research, I'm more confused as ever, so if possible, can someone tell me which PSP I should get, Why, pros and cons, if anything extra will have to be purchased.

I was thinking of getting a PSP Slim and a seperate 8 GB memory stick, but I've read that it's not a good idea to get a Slim cause of the method needed to modify the firmware.
So help (In lamens terms please) ?
    Thanks.

If you want to get a PSP and flash a CFW, get the slim.
You will be happier with it since it has better hardware features and honestly, if you read the guides well, it is no problem to flash it.

I would just recommend to get a seperate battery (I got the extended one) and use the original to make a pandora battery.

    I followed this guide:
[GUIDE] PSP Custom Firmware Reference Guide 3.0

    Almost bulletproof!

    For Homebrew:
Try a SNES emulator and get PSPTube for watching youtube perfectly on your psp...

For making a reversible Pandora Battery without soldering, check section 6b of:
How To Open Your Slim Battery 4 Pandora Hard MOD Reverseable W/ PICS

I hope this helps. Read everything carefully and follow the guides step by step...

P.S.: You can still break your PSP! If so, it is YOUR fault

I haven't had any problems with my psp slim (modded). I got the slim simply because of its tv-out feature. As for homebrew, that depends on what you plan to use your psp for. There are so many homebrew apps to put on a psp. Like Jorlin mentioned, if you read the guides, you should have no problem. That or find someone local to do it for you.

I can't get your links to work. I want to see the guide you used. Any other guide you recommend? With thousands being available, it's hard to know which one to trust.

    thanks

If you have Windows XP, you should have no problems. I made a Pandora's battery for no reason basically. I struggled for a week to install everything on Windows Vista and I'm convinced that there's no way to do it (or at least no easy way, maybe there's a very eccentric and difficult way but screw that).

It took me about 20 minutes on my parents' computer with Windows XP to get CFW on my PSP Slim.

The additional features of the new slim PSP-2001 models are really starting to become apparent compared to the older PSP-1001. A new plugin called Fusa lets you play any game over any TV-out cable for the Slim if you have custom firmware, and rocking the complete NES/SNES/Genesis collection on the go on any TV is super-satisfying. The Slim also has additional RAM and Flash, which means official Sony features will be added to the firmware which simply will no longer fit on the old PSP-1001's (Skype being a good example).

The big hit is that to convert a Slim (and newer/upgraded Fats, for that matter) from an Official firmware to a Custom one, you need a Pandora's battery and a magic memory stick. A Pandora's battery can be obtained fairly cheaply online (I sound like a broken record, but: DealExtreme.com - $10), but the magic memory stick is your bigger issue. If you're confident enough in your PC skills, a Google search for "pandora magic memory stick without cfw" will get you some help there. Just be prepared to download at least a couple hundred megabytes worth of files, and make sure you are confident with what you need to do. The simplest way to get these tools, though, is using a friend's PSP already equipped with Custom firmware.

Really, though, the Slim is very much worth it.

As for homebrew, if you're an emulator fan, look up 'Nesterj', 'snes9x_tyl', 'dgen', and 'gpSP' in the emulators section of QuickJump

    Always a favorite for me.
