Assuming i am using a guide to learn how to mod a psp, and i went out and bought one BRAND new, is there anything to speciafically know? Skip updates? Get updates? Anything before i start?

Updates won't matter, as long as you have a memory stick (max storage 2gb I think) and a Pandora Battery (there are links all over the board for these. The Guide section is a good place to start), you should be good to go.

I wouldn't update it, because there is no need to update if your just going to put CFW on it. Which psp are you planing on buying? FAT or SLIM? Are you going to hard-mod your battery to make it pandora?
