Yes, it will work for no problem. In fact I just did it for a roommate of mine from Japan. Flashes just like a US Psp. Keep in mind that some of the newer Japanese PSP arn't able to be flashed with custom firmware. If you don't know how to make custom firmware, well then your in the right place.

Hercule wrote this guide, and it's how I learned to load custom firmware on PSP. I think i've done like, 5-7 now. No bricks.

If you wanna make a pandora battery then It might not go as well.
If you have a japanesse battery and you run UPMS Installer to make it a pandora battery, it might not work. My battery was from china.. and so was my psp. My battery is american... and those seem to be the only ones that can turn into pandora battery via UMPS installer. But If you have a American battery... happy battery making! PS: From where the psp from has no factor in making a modded psp... only the battery because sometimes the verification process will fail if they battery is not from America.
