I keep getting this exact error message EVERY time.
    Code:
The game could not be started. (8002014C)
I've tried three tutorials, and it will not go any further in any one of them. This tutorial is what I last used. (Step 10 is where I get stuck)
I went to the game menu, click my memory stick, go to Pandora's Battery Creator and it loads like any other game, except it doesn't go any further than the white and green PSP logo (about 4 seconds in). I'm going to assume the problem lies in HOW I placed the modification files on my memory stick, but since I have no idea how that could be, I'll stick with my story.

I'm sorry if the answer is blatantly obvious right in front of my eyes, but I still don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

Also, I saw on this that I can use a modified PSP battery (Pandora) as a normal battery still. Since I'm a cheap bastard that doesn't cough up any money, I'm not buying another battery. Can someone please fill me in on this too?

You cant run anything unofficial on official firmware so if your on 3.71 Official forget about doing a softmod without a hacked PSP

IF YOUR ON 3.71 M33 Custom Firmware:

The original Pandora's Battery Creator only runs under 1.50 so unless u have the kernel addon (in which case place in GAME150). Use Cory's OSPBT 0.6. http://nds.cmamod.com/wordpress/?dl=31

But unless ur trying to use 1.50 u dont need to go back to 1.50, pandora will take wherever u heart desires as long as ur heart desires 1.50, 3.71M33, 3.80M33, 3.90M33, 4.01M33.

And for the last remark im gonna be an asshole: If your on official firmware then you obviously didnt follow a tutorial otherwise u wouldnt have tried to run an application on official firmware.
February 2011 LINKS FIXED, sorry about all that! I'm back!

    Alright then, that's settled.
I'm going to assume the guide to cutting that single metal wire inside my battery is a way to hard-mod it, or at least a method to get an unofficial firmware on it, right?

I could care less about you being an asshole as long as I can get an answer. Thank you very much, Rain Motorsports.

But, according to a few search results (such as this one) which says
If you're on official 3.71 firmware, the first step is to downgrade to 1.50. Use Pandora's Battery to do this.
    Am I missing something here?

All of this PSP terminology is so confusing.
Please, someone answer me this specific question: "Can I modify my original fat PSP into a "homebrew" or load it with a custom firmware WITHOUT destroying (modifying) my battery or using another PSP, or not?" And furthermore; "if so, then HOW can I please?"

    Thanks in advance.

One dont use yahoo answers for psp advice.

Two once u have ur pandora battery (Bought Flashed or Hard Modded) U can take ur pick. 1.50 Official, 3.71 M33, 3.80 M33, 3.90 M33, 4.01 M33 can all be gone straight to.

Since say around Oct 04, 2007 u didnt need to downgrade a phat to 1.50 and thats a long time in the PSP scenes short history of say 3 years. Alof og uides are outdated.

There are a couple different phat batterys floating around the majority of them are the 2 that can be hard modded, but phat batts are harder then slims as u need to cut the leg/pin off the ico4 chip. Alot of idiots get all in a hurry and puncture the battery just trying to get it open.

Depending on your skills it would be wiser to cough up the 9 or so bucks it costs to get a tool battery from deal extereme though it takes a long time to arrive. The official source is much quicker and is code junkies but the datel tool runs 25 from them, still cheaper then a new battery if u fucked up.

You can boot normally off a pandora battery (i do so on both my phat and slum) just need an ipl on the memory stick such as the time machine ipl. Which is easy todo and if u make a pandora MMS for 3.90 or 4.01 then its already there for you.

I got mine in about March-April 2006...I don't really know what more that means except that it's pretty old in comparison.

I'm very confident with disassembling/modifying electronics. It's this weird PSP terminology that's getting to me. But I've been reading a little of this and getting the hang of it.

I guess if I fuck up, I might as well buy a new battery anyways.
And besides, what stops me from hitting up RadioShack, buying a voltage regulator and making my own battery? Even just to run the PSP normally.

That's pretty cool, just what I wanted. I'm going to assume even with a hard-modded battery?

Thanks a lot, Rain Motorsport. You've been a great help.
