Hi, I've picked up a PSP-3001 running firmware 5.02, and I'm wondering what I can do with it with respect to running homebrew and backups. I've been trying to brush up on the subject, but there's a lot of old information to cut through, so I'm not sure I'm getting the big picture.

I've seen something mentioned about a game called Gearshift; do I need a copy of that to do anything? And someone else has mentioned Chicken, what exactly is that all about? Do both/either/none of these allow me to run homebrew? And backups?

I apologize if this is redundant, I wasn't able to easily find everything I was looking for. If someone could answer these for me, I'd appreciate it. I'm hesitant to touch the thing since I know a lot of hacking depends on specific firmware revisions.

Excellent. Other than some futzing around with chickHEN, I have it up and running.

Since you didn't mention it, I take it backup loading isn't currently supported? Is that a "it's not working yet" or a "that's physically impossible" thing?

Oh, and are there any specific memory sticks recommended for the PSP? It came with a 256MB stick so I'll probably grab something bigger. Can you just throw in any stick, or will speed matter?

Probably possible, but will never be implemented by the current dev team.

Thanks. If ISO support were added, would the speed of the stick matter? I don't want to buy the cheapest thing now (which looks to be fine for homebrew) only to find out that it's too slow for other things in the future.

    1. seriously old thread.

    2. irrelevant to your topic.

    3. we don't bother explaining that. download 5.03 on pspslimhacks.com and look up a guide on google.
