I was thinking the other day "what if sony made it so that firmware updates checked the internet to make sure that you have the latest firmware available?" like after you downloaded the firmware eboot it would check the internet again to make sure it's the latest before installing it....it would make it impossible to upgrade to a lower firmware than the latest firmware. could this be a logical answer for sony and the bs they give homebrew users? do you think they would ever do something like that?

No. We, the homebrew community, think of creative things; and SONY sucks them right out of us and includes them in their next official updates. For example, SONY took: Custom XMB themes, that radio thing, PS1 emulation (this is why you don't need an emulator to play PS1 games), and other stuff I either forgot about, or am too lazy to list.

That's impractical on their part. People would complain, since not everyone has WiFi. Not only that, new code would have to be implemented in each firmware.

Oh well, if they do decide to use this idea, I'll know whose fault it is

They definitely do, but not just ours. That's how they try to keep up with us.

Haha, there are plenty of ways Sony can innovate, but choose not to. I have so many ideas for a second analog stick that Sony sure as hell could have cooked up themselves. But do they listen? No. Because "listening to the modding community would be bowing down to piracy". Pfft...gimmie a break...

Sony,(as well as nintendo) browse forums and homebrew articles because they find methods to prevent the homebrew from being enabled. So really we are always being watched, sony and nintendo think everyone is pirating their systems nowadays.

well if they downloaded the update from where they were supposed to download it from (the buiilt in update feature) then they will need to have wifi anyways right?

You can download it from online though. They would have to offer a version that doesn't check, because even if they removed older versions, other sites would host them.
