    Hello,

While I am familiar with modded consoles in general for the past few generations, I have zero experience with the PSP, so was hoping to get some advice from someone knowledgeable. I want to buy a PSP and have the best mix of hardware vs capability. By that I mean I want to pick the model with the best screen quality / features that will still provide me the least amount of hassles.

I am ok with buying a new one, but from the reading I've done it seems like the 3000 series is full of hassles compared to the older ones, even though it has a nicer screen.

I guess my question is, if you were going to buy a PSP today (new or used), what would be the "best" model for custom firmware and is there anything to look out for (ie don't get it if it has higher than x.xx firmware on it)?

Thanks very much for your help.

Without a doubt, the original 1001 is the best in my opinion. It is guaranteed hackable.

The marketplace here on the forum usually has one or two. Gamestop sells Phats for $100 even. Craigslist usually has at least 10 for sale.

PSP 1001 if you can find one, or an old 2000. Good luck and enjoy hacking!

Trust me, it works. I hate scams, too. The only thing is that it takes a while to get a lot of SwagBucks, and you need a lot to get the good stuff.

Just wanted to thank everyone for all the advice, I ended up deciding on a barely used daxter psp 2000, because I wanted the tvout. However, in time I'm sure I'll find that I don't actually use the tvout, but it sounded useful at the time.
