EDIT: I received my psp, and now am currently waiting on my Pandora from pspmod, so should I wait until I get it?
And should I install chickhen or mhuspeed?

I had my old psp stolen, and I'm currently looking to buy a new one, that can be hacked, in order to play my backups of my old games.

Now, I was browsing around amazon/ebay. What version should I get? should I ask them what firmware it is?

Recommendation please, or it'd be great if there was a specific place people sold hackable/already hacked psps?

    just get a psp 1000 and don't worry, cause it's 100% hackable

i'd go amazon.com or local gamestop for 99.99

The only thing about those are, that they're going to have more defects, sicne they're older.
I was thinking about getting one of the guaranteed to be hacked versions, the red,m white, or silver game pack ones, does it matter what firmware it is if it's a 2k and it's the vadar god of war or daxter pack?

as long as it's fully hackable then...shouldn't matter what firmware but you may need a pandora.

my 1k's are awesome and i wouldn't trade em for any other lol

    Hmmm.
What about the god of war pack?
I was consider buying a "new one" as amazon still has them, and it shouldn't matter what the firmware is, should it?

I'm just only concerned, and asking, as I reallly don't want to buy it, and find out that it has to be "so and so" firmware.
Like how 3k, and some 2k ones have to have a firmware under 5.03 or something, and they can't even be fully hacked.

    I know it isss. Dx
But, what firmware does it need to be?

    EDIT:
I just read around, and can you downgrade the firmware of a red psp without it having a custom one already?
Oooor, with those models does it not matter what firmware it is?

as long as a psp is "hackable", the firmware is irrelevant...cause a pandora battery and magic stick will downgrade/flash any firmware your heart desires.

firmware only matters to non hackables...hope the helps.

hmm, well it's also not just what to buy, but where to buy.
First off, what country are you in? I think alot of people take for granted most guides and written for an American audience (such as the 2001 hackable guide). In saying that I'm in Australia and have yet to be steered wrong by the advice on this forum.

The whole thing also really depends on your Pyramid of Expectation. what i mean by that is that imagine (or draw if you really have terrible spacial skills) an equalateral triangle. For each point you have 'Fast', 'Good' & 'Cheap'.

Now you could get a brand new system that you know is hackable from the buy direct sites of Amazon or eBay (Good & Fast), but it won't be Cheap (in my case I bought second hand from EB cause of the 12month warranty and range of consoles to choose from).

You could go onto eBay and start watching the auctions about to finish and find one that is going cheap (Fast & Cheap) but chances are it won't be Good (for various reasons, mainly the question 'why isn't anyone else bidding?').

Or you could spend many, many hours trawling through eBay, craigslist, Gumtree (aus) or any other classified or auction listing finding that elusive good condition psp that either the person selling doesn't realize it's value, or has fallen through the cracks of other bidders awareness. Obviously this is the Good & Cheap option, but it probably won't be Fast.

I find making that destinction helps alot when making these sorts of decisions. As I mentioned I took the Good & Fast option with my first (phat) PSP, and then when I bought my second (slim), I opted for the Good & Cheap option, spending alot of time searching through listings and making offers. It totally paid off though when I managed to score an almost-mint (one light scuff, literally) Silver FF 10th Ann. Ed. Slim with Crisis Core bundled game, 8 gig MS & basic accessories for $140 delivered. that was cheaper than I paid for just the (slightly lesser quality) phat system 3 months earlier.

The cheap deals are out there. One of my favourite tools now is to look for either classifieds that have remained listed for a while, or eBay 'buy it now' auctions that are about to end and message the seller with a polite (sometimes meak or a little pitiful) message making an undercut offer. Particularly if it saves them relisting the item and paying fees, and then having a cut taken (as with eBay) alot will be happy to make a private sale at a lower price.

*also just for the record. this is not illegal or violating terms of use (for eBay) as much as they would like to make you believe it is. Both consumers and sellers have rights (in Aus under the ACCC. Each country has their own department). In Australia in particular there has been a big backlash against eBay (and Paypal) when they tried to illegally monopolize the market, and impose terms and conditions that were contrary to consumer rights. So just cause they say something is the case doesn't make it so.*

As an issue of what to get. I'm a bit torn between the two. phats are all hackable and have the IR remote (wth IRShell) however they have less memory, which i'm not sure if it effects game play, but you can't multitask (music in the background, again IRShell). They are cheaper though, and arguably more durable. side-note however that it's pretty hard to find accessories for the phat consoles these days.

Slims are lighter, extra memory for multitasking, and have the mic if your into chat. However only some are hackable (though I would suggest people just do what i did and only search for coloured/theme slim consoles. Anything but Mystic Blue or Piano Black should be hackable) and they also have no IR.

So it really comes down to whats available around you, what you need it for, and what your expectations are.
I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way...

once they realized that someone like xavis could win it, the title wasn't as prestigeous as the old WWF championship.
