A friend of mine just purchased a supposed Daxter pack Slim. It didn't come with the Daxter box, but in a generic white box so I am immediately suspicious. Also, it has OFW 6.20 (that in itself doesn't mean anything - it could have been "upgraded", but still suspicious). It is definitely a 2001 model - says so on the serial number tag.

Anyway, it has serial # HU3666xxxxxx which is pretty darn high! Also, my Pandora battery and magic memory card would not work - the power light flashes green once, then nothing. The screen never even activates. I know my tools are good, because I used them on my Daxter Slim without any problems whatsoever.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

well, according to the 2k rules, any colored 2k sans blue and blacks should be hackable, but you make it sound like the psp itself might be fake lol

where was it bought, and does it have any marks on it that might point out towards it being opened?

That's almost what I thought at first (that it might be a non-hackable motherboard with the silver case), but I saw an old post that reminded me about the 'L' shoulder button.

Also, I made a mistake, is is serial #: AT03666xxxxx

I finally got CFW loaded via the Pandora battery (had to hold the 'L' shoulder button while inserting the battery) and it showed the 5.50M33 firmware when I did the test, but now the darn thing won't turn on with the regular battery!

When turning on with the regular battery, the green power light flashes once and then that's it - nothing on the screen. Reinserting the magic memory stick and pandora gets me back to the screen to load CFW so I know it's not bricked.

    What gives?

If it's not turning on normally then it is bricked. Try reflashing and if you get the same problem, try remaking your mms. You can use the second to last link In my sig. You do not hold down any buttons for this mms.

So would this be known as a "recoverable brick" since it can still be reflashed using the Pandora and MMS?

I am sure that the MMS is good - it is the exact same one I used for my Silver Slim and worked flawlessly. I am going to tell me friend to try to use it to flash it back to the OFW.

    Thanks for your help.

Yeah, sometimes when you flash with a Pandora + MMS it doesn't install correctly and something will fuck up. So if you try again, it may install correctly.

I thought the early Daxter Entertainment packs were Silver Slims with a TA-085v1 motherboard, while later versions of the Daxter pack are also silver Slims but with a TA-085v2 motherboard. the later pack has the newer 1200 mAh batteries which cannot be changed into a PB at all.

you made the pb, using that original PSP battery of that Daxter PSP?

(Sorry for the late reply, I've been away on a business trip)

No - I bought the Pandora battery tool. It wasn't worth $12 to try to convert my battery, risk screwing it up, and then have to convert it back.

My friend still has it - hopefully he has fixed it by the time I get back. If not, then it's time to take another crack at it.

UPDATE: I just received an email from my friend. I guess there was a second half to the procedure (although I do not remember doing this before).

Once the PSP has been flashed:
    1) pop in the original battery (must be close to 100% charged)
    2) Hold the R-Trigger and Power button (system turns on after 3 seconds)
    3) Voila! .. you are at the system recovery screen. Adjust a few PSP config settings (not required) and exit.

How old is your MMS? I don't think I ever had to do this...

It's about 1 year old from the best I can recall. After I modded my PSP, I packed it away for safekeeping. I really don't think that there is anything wrong with it as my friend now has his PSP working fine.

thats only if its an extended battery.my daxter slim came with a 1200 mah and was easily converted thru a ssoftmod and then a hardmod test,so i dunno where you get that logic, but 1200 mah batteries are pandora ready.

op-i think the reason that your having trouble is cause the slim is already on 6.20 and thats making it act weird.did you try my guide (1st signature)
that seems to have the best luck on future firmware, although its never been tested on a 6.20 model but worth a shot.good luck and god speed

PAndora and mms will work no matter the firmware version if the psp is hackable; ofw doesn't effect it.

Entering the recovery mode may have been mentioned to change the umd mode or other settings, likely wasn't needed. :P

Just a quick note - The silvers are also a colour to watch out for wrt v3 mobos - There were quite a few released around March/April '09 (I know because I own one) as with all the other colours of the time 2k and 3k 4.21 OFW but with the TA088V3!

    What CFW does it load?

This is relevant to my interests...
