Questions left after reading Guides section

Hello, I am new to modding in anyway and I would really appreciate some help.

A few years ago my brother modded my PSP so that I could play emulators on it. Here's the thing: I have no idea how he did it at all. I haven't been using my PSP lately until the the other day when I received Persona 3 Portable in the mail. I was excited to play it but it is not working. After attempting to update my CFW blindly (I don't understand or know what I am running on) I gave up and tried the OFW update which also did not work. Looking back I guess that was stupid to try anyway. SO I am just going to list what I know and hope that someone out there knows what the hell it all means.


What I know:

When attempting to run the game the screen that pops up says:
"The system software of your PSP system is version 3.52. To start you must update to version 6.20 or later. Do you want to update now?" If I say yes it says " The game could not be started. (DADADADA)

My System Software says I am running 3.52 M33

When I tried to run the programs guides my screen would go black then turn off my PSP after a pause.

My PSP is the Phat style and was modded without the use of a pandora battery/MMS.

Use this guide.

Concentrate on Section 4 first, then section two

You're going to update your system firmware to 5.50 Prometheus, this way you can still use emulators, and also play your UMD that you want to play.

No...

You need to start with section 4, then section 2.

You will use chickHEN and Hellcats recovery flasher to do it.
