I just bought a PSP and so far it is pretty good with one problem.

It's a PSP-2001 and is in good condition

I bought it used and it's running 5.50 Gen-D2 and the only problem is when I plug in a USB cable from it to my computer neither recognizes anything and the PSP is stuck saying "Please Wait..." while nothing happens.

I've searched the forums (and google) and haven't found any posts relating to this specific problem.

I've tried the PSP on 2 computers, and a PS3 and neither have detected it. I've tried different USB cables as well.

Could it be drivers, the firmware or something else?
    Any advice or solutions?

This almost certainly sounds like a hardware problem. Something physically wrong with the PSP.

I'd encourage you to read the rules for the forum. They're pretty straightforward and there aren't many of them. http://www.pspmod.com/forums/introdu...uncements.html

    1. Re-download PSP type A and B drivers from the internet. These are usually much better than the ones that come in Windows Update

    2. Turn off the "Charge by USB" option. Windows is notoriously bad at detecting PSPs with this option on

Thanks for the responses but I can't seem to find the Type B drivers for 64 bit Windows 7.

    Anyone have a link?

I have a similar problem on my one slim. It will charge from the usb port while plugged into my computer, it just will not let me read/write to the memory card. Psp can read/write to memory card though.

Also have a psp 3000 that had this problem, but i fixed it by bridging the two ends of the one usb fuse on the motherboard.

Tested the fuses in my slim and they are all good. Tried many many different cables. Turned usb charge off. Definately some kind of hardware problem, that Im not sure how/what to fix.

Anyone have any Ideas/experience with fixing this problem?

Do you have a card reader?, does your PC have a built in card reader?. Try sticking the MS in a card reader or card reader slot on your PG and see if it recognizes it

Yeah, I have a card reader, and checked the memory stick that way, an its good. Im hoping to get back the usb connection capability of my one slim. The slim with the usb problem, has had the ms card reader replaced on the motherboard. What i am looking into now, is if the metal shield surrounding the ms reader is connected/linked to anything else onboard the psp motherboard. all the pins in the back are soldered down good as well as the metal shield. Just not sure if the metal shield is tied into the usb port in any way or not.

Anyone able to confirm this thought?
