Just found my old PSP a few days ago. 1st gen PHAT PSP. Made the hardmod Pandora battery. Running a 2 gig MMS with 5.00 firmware. Because the thing's old, it's a bit beat up. My speaker doesn't work and my headphone jack needs to be wiggled to one side so I can get sound out of it.

I've made an ISO file of my Kingdom Hearts BBS (1,726,046 kb) and been playing it for about a week with no problems. I have an ISO of my Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core (972,916 kb), but have yet to play it.

First, my Pandora battery doesn't seem to want to hold a charge while sitting off for more than one night. Is this common, or did I mess something up?

Next, what would I gain by finding new Firmware to run on it?

Lastly, for now, I was looking into converting my ISO files into CSO files because I was told they take up less space. As of now, I can't get more than one game on my memory stick. I'd like to be able to have the 2 ISO/CSO's on there. I found a program to convert them with PSP ISO Converter 1.4), but it didn't bring down the size at all. Is there any way I can Improve the results or go about this another, better way?

First your sound issue is more than likely hardware, fixing it can be a bitch, but if you want to try Complete PSP Disassembly. Secondly your pandora is probably just losing its charge I recommend just buying another fat battery and using it as your main battery (you can of course keep the pandora for recovery and modding). Third you don't get too much upgrading your firmware but I recommend updating to 5.00m33-6 and then installing the latest promethus mod which will allow you to play new games with on-the-fly encryption (http://www.pspmod.com/forums/psp-beg...-one-link.html. For your last question, converting ISOs to CSOs is not advisable because compression hurts file performance meaning it may not work right, I suggest using UMDGen to open the ISO and rip out the crap, check my sig if you're interested (http://www.pspmod.com/forums/softwar...33-manual.html).

How to check if you can mod your PSP

Thanks MZ for a sleek sig!

Swapping speakers is easy as hell...Just use that disassembly guide above. When you get to the motherboard area, just take out the old speaker(s) and pop in your new one(s).

They'll run you about $4 on eBay btw.

The problem is the headphone jack. Look on ebay for a replacement headphone jack. Once you get that fixed, your speakers should work again

If I get a new battery, does it need to be a Pandora battery, or can I just use a regular one since I already have the modded firmware on the system?

As for getting the 5.00 with m33, I already have that.

When it cones to taking the system apart, I get stuck at screen removal. If I get farther than that, will I need to solder anything for the new headphone jack?

Well if the hardmod pandora battery can retain enough charge to complete a flash of the system, then retain that as your pandora and just buy a standard replacement.

However if you think it may be damaged and want to keep it out of your system (which i'd advice incase it starts leaking battery acid or some such) you can by a TOOL hybrid battery from ebay or dealextreme which can be manually set to either pandora or normal. They're cheap, and some are cautious about their build quality (not without reason), however i've had mine for at least a year now and it's still functioning perfectly.
I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way...

If you just replace the headphone jack, then yes, you will need to do a bit of soldering. You can replace the whole headphone jack and memory card reader as an assembly, this way, no soldering involved. You can probably find one on eBay for 10 to 15 bucks

I'll most likely just find another PSP in new condition.

With the battery, so you're saying once I've set up the new firmware, I can use a regular battery and it'll run fine?

    Hey, sorry for the double-post.

Today, my dog pulled my PSP off my dresser by way of pulling on the power cord (Won't be making this careless placement mistake again). Now, I'm looking into getting another unit. Not sure if I should stick with what I know and get another 1001 or upgrade to a 2001. I'm looking for suggestions and I'm not too set on sticking with the original, just because I'm still relatively new to all this.

Any input on either device would be greatly welcomed.

Yes, it is. I may or may not be able to sell it myself. Right now, I don't have cash for anything, but I have someone who does a lot of work on ebay that owes me a favor. I'm gonna see if he can set me up with a new unit and if he tells me he wants something out of it, then I'll offer him my old one to sell for parts.

If I can get him to hook me up without taking my old one, or find a way to get my hands on another unit on my own, I'll be able to sell/trad this one.

As you know from above, the screen's broken as is the headphone jack. Everything else works fine.

Just, like $20 and whatever shipping'll be for just the unit. If I can get a new one with battery and whatnot, I'll consider throwing in a battery and stuff, but it depends on my ebay hookup and any offers I may get.

Well, like I said, it depends on the situation with getting a new unit.Until then, I think we should move selling discussion to PMs to keep the admins/mods happy and work on information here.
