Hello I am a new member here. i am currently upgrading my CFW to 6.60mev1.3. i was running 5.00 M33-6 but a member told me here that its out of date so i decided to change it, again.I originally started this journey with 4.01 M33-2 approximately 2 years back. but i still do not know the true potential of the CFW. there are certain obvious reasons like no longer needing a UMD, but others still evade me. i would like to read some responses on what the PSP can really do, like programs and applications because truthfully my PSP lies turned off for months at a time because i see no true usage for it, other than playing games of course. Can the PSP only play games? What else can be done with CFW? what, if any programs are there? I don't believe people would dedicate so much of their time to PSP mods if the outcome was solely playing "Nintendo" games from when they were children. I feel that im missing the something blatantly obvious here.

and yes. i did "google" and "you tube" this topic and a vast majority are people scrolling through their XMB with a blurry web cam and showing all the titles they have in their game section and not describing what they are or what they do or even the purpose of having them on the PSP.

i look forward to your responses. thank you.

For me the main thing is definately the games, I play a lot of PSX classics like the final fantasy series, aswell as SNES and GB roms. The PSP form factor and controls make it absolutely perfect for the job, as I would never play those games any more at home on the big screen, but it's good to have with me on the train or something playing some classics!

There's a bunch of stuff you can do with it if you keep your ear to the scene, I used to use mine as a remote control for my TV when mine packed in for example.

The PSP is a Game System so any Homebrew applications are not going to be that great, really the only good applications are what makes the games better.
Like things that make your mp3s play in the games and some people use cheat applications but those are not my cup of tea. The reason I have my psp hacked is
so I can play my UMDs from the Memory stick but I do enjoy other features that the psp has to offer like being able to use it as a mp3 player its not great but it
does work, also the web browser is okay to use on the go but get opera on it or netfront browser.

I have heard things about PSP Maps(requires PSP GPS), I do not know how well this works though but it looked cool if it worked of course.

i use my psp primarily for gaming. but there are a number of other uses for it aswell. i also use it for movies, watching flix on it with a female friend is a great way to get close to each other if you know what i mean. i also put movies on it and use it with the video out cable for when i go to friends houses that have older SD tv's and no form of cable. i occasionally use it for browsing the net, you know checking email, watching porn, typical internet crap. and once in awhile its nice having some music on it along with a powered external speaker for those random parties out in the woods or where ever. really, it is a multi-media device. use it for whatever floats your boat, rip the guts out of it and make it into an ant farm if thats your thing.

there are alot more apps and such for it than you probably realize. just a matter of searching through the pages of them for the cool stuff. one of the coolest things i think i have seen is the P2P file sharing, or the file manager for the psp. then there are some extreme cases where it has been made into a mini laptop of sorts. all kinds of cool stuff to do with it. deffinatly a favorite of mine

I am in it for the useless eyecandy ... The things only made for the pure enjoyment of saying "Look what the PSP is doing!"

I had a PDA app on there for awhile with Calculator,Daily planner,Alarm Clock,File Browser,MP3 player, that kinda stuff. There was a systems monitor I had (which proved more hassle then the outcome was worth) to watch my computers RAM,CPU, and other stats like that, as Chrisvarns said there is an IR universal remote (which I only fiddled with about 5min. before deleting it). Other then that, It's all about gaming it up

Agree. And the fact that with cfw, you can further personalize your psp with plugins, custom themes(better than official themes), and homebrew.
