Need help with lagging

OK long story short: Bought Final Fantasy 8 off PSN, when I got to Disc 3 the game started lagging badly. Googled the problem, no solutions, seems it's rare but also happens to other people (not only with FF8 but with other PS1 classic games off PSN as well). Memory card is a 4 GB Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo MagicGate Mark2. Tried it on two different systems, same lagging. Modded my PSP-1000, tried upping the XMB and Game clocks to 333/166 and switched UMD Iso mode to M33 Driver, still lags the same.

I'm clueless at this point. It seems apparent it's either a problem with the game itself or the memory stick. But I tried deleting and re-installing the game twice already and it still lags. Once again it only started happening when I got to disc 3.

Format your card then give it another go, it should run fine on your system. Also make sure both those cards aren't fakes.
