I go disk by disk, playing on firmware 4.01 while using the ID SLPS-02180. I have over 15 hours like this, hasn't froze once. Scanning and drawing works fine.

ok. if i started the game already on an eboot with a different ID, do i just use the method you talked about earlier to transfer the save file over?

did you download the game or make it from your own disk. if you did download them. did they all come in one set (one rar or a bunch of rar's that make one rar) or in one torrent or did you download each disk seperatly?

just a question. because I could only see the reason to change an ID is if the second or third or fourth disk is from another region

like... disk one through 3 might be SLUS while disk four might be SLPS. that's the only way it makes sense to me why you'd need to change your ID.

what I do. is only make eboots from isos that are my own games. and my games have the ID on the case so I know i have the right ID's for all my disk. this way if I have a problem I knowi t's not because of a faulty ID.

plus.... stealing is wrong. don't tell that to me 5 years ago though. haha I downloaded roms and ISO's left and right

i concur. i had this game back when it first came out but ended up selling it because i needed some cash. so i ended up borrowing the discs from a friend of mine - BUT unfortunately for him he lost the case for it which as you've stated has the ID on it. just an answer to your question

The ID is on the disk. Under the ESRB rating.

have you tried all versions of popsloader?

Final Fantasy VIII/8 SLUS-00892 NTSC-U Yes Set camera movement to 0% in the game's configuration.

Try using an alternate GameID (SCUS-94640, SLPS-02180, SLPS-01222, or SLPS-01156). There's also this tool to switch between two popular IDs.

Things that may cause the game to freeze (especially on the default GameID):

    Zell's Duel Burning Rave

    Some of Quistis' limits.

Scanning and casting magic in battle.

Drawing for an extended period of time.

Many special attacks monsters and bosses can do.

Fighting Elvoret in the Comm Tower.

Fighting Granaldo in Training Area (3.71 M33-4)

Wendigos in the Dollet forest can cause the game to randomly freeze.

When fighting Griever if he draws from you, the game may freeze.

For specific information on making this game more compatible, go to the Final Fantasy VIII page.

4.01: Default GameID on default settings works great. It drops a frame or two when entering a battle, but that's about it.

4.01: Still problems with Scan magic freezing before or just after scan on 90%. Upd: Works fine when popsloader is disabled.

If you encounter the Lunar Cry Crash when Squall is unable to move after the previous FMV, you will need to use popsloader 3.71 and then mash buttons at the end of the FMV in order for the game to hopefully trigger the next scene. (This will only be necessary if you are using a Multiboot, as Single boot users can use lower versions on popsloader.) - Aekom

4.01:Working with no problems encountered using game id SLPS02180, and in single-disc eboot, even popsloader is enabled in 4.01M33-2 (set in original from flash) - krystabegnalie

    edit: got that info at

PSX on PSP Compatibility List - TheGamersPress

I actually encountered a problem last night. Second disc when you go to Edeas' house, you see the other garden hovering about the forest. Nida hands Squall binoculars and says check it out or whatever, a quick FMV is supposed to play, it wouldn't. I loaded the game up using 3.72 pops and it played. I saved the game and went back to 4.01.

are you saying this problem happened on 4.01 then you tried it on 3.72. it still happened. and then you went back to 4.01? or did you have the problem on 3.72. and went back to 4.01?

(tries to remember that part of the game but can't )

It worked on 3.72. So I saved and then went back to 4.01. On 4.01 it just wouldn't trigger the FMV, that's all.
