Hi, I just bought an unmodded psp and want to get it modded to have an emulator. I have looked around the site and google, but a lot of the stuff I dont really understand. I have version 2.81 firmware, but I heard that I had to downgrade. I believe I can use the "Lumines exploit" to downgrade, but what frimware is recommended to run an emulator. I was hoping to have a psx and a genesis emulator, but am starting to lose hope. Can anybody give me some advice?

lumines would be your best bet there... you could also do a pandora, but if you don't know anyone in the scene then lumines would be the easiest to find. go to PSP Hacks · Hacks, PSP Downloads, Cracks, Mods, Homebrew, Utilities · Hack Sony PlayStation Portable for all the downgraders and files that you'll need.

I think it would be best to buy Pandora's Battery instead of using the "Lumines" exploit.

Getting your hands on a copy of the needed game these days can be quite hard and if the street prices haven't changed, you might be looking at a good 40-50 some dollars.

For that kind of money, you can just as easily purchase Pandora's Battery. And once you're done using it, you can keep it around as a "safety net" in case you brick your PSP.

I might be able to borrow Lumines from a friend. However, the begginer recommended that I make a pandora battery, but not only do I not have a sottering iron, but I also dont have an extra battery( i heard that once a battery becomes a pandora, you have to plug in the AC adaptor to even turn on the psp!). I have vista, and I heard that making the magic memory stick is harder on vista. Also, I think I found a link to soft mod the psp without a pandora battery. Is that the same thing, or something different. Also, I found Hercules "Guide using Pandora's Battery *easy way, but you must have CFW* ". Is that what I need to do AFTER I make a pandora battery, or do I even need one? If cfw means custom firmware, that I cant use Hercules's guide, can I? And one last wuestion: is there a SINGLE guide that I can use to completely mod my psp? Going between guides and not knowing a lot of psp lingo can be quite confusing!

    Short answer; No.

Some-what longer answer; No, because there's so much to be said and written about modding a PSP that it can't fit into a small thread. The search button on the top menu bar of these forums, however, can help you find the appropriate guides for your endeavors.
