Anyone know how to rip a rom file off a SNES cart?

I have been trying to get a SNES game to work on the PSP. The game is Big Sky Trooper. I have the original cartridge for this one but never got to finish the game because the save function stopped working. Probably just a battery, but still annoying.
Anyway, I have tried both of the most recent versions of the SNES EMU for the PSP, snes9xTYL 523 and test 5, and neither seems to want to save with the rom file for this game. Saving on other roms works perfectly, just not with this one.
Oh, running 5.00m33-3 CFW on a slim psp.
I have even tried to find an alternative version of the rom file to use, but every one I've found is the EXACT same file.
If I run the rom on the PC it saves okay but I want to take it with me damnit! SNES emulation was one of THE big reasons I got the PSP finally.
One thing I did notice, when I run the rom for the first time on the PC, when I save the save area/info is all blank until I save for the first time. On the PSP, when I first run it, it acts as if it already has save info, but it is all garbled? Might that have something to do with it?
Any suggestions would be appreciated, or even somewhere else I could go for info.
Thanks for your time.
