I have a 3.52 M33 installed for almost 2 years. I can't play some newer iso games. Should I upgrade to the latest version?

Default Universal PSP M33 Installation

Since this is the noobs section, I may as well chime in. I have a psp phat with 3.03 oe-c custom firmware. I did the liberty city storys hack way back when that was new but I've forgotten how to install firmware.

I want to install 4.01 so I read this guide: Easy 4.01 Custom Firmware Installer

but I don't quite understand (and some of the links are broken). On the second point it says to download 4.01 eboot and put it in the update folder. Is this the official Sony firmware that I'm supposed to put in there?

Also when I downloaded the 4.01 rar file there were other folders in there such as SDK and translate. Do I do anything with these folders or just leave them where they are?

Another thing I want to ask, can I update directly to 4.01 or do i have to install some other custom firmware first?

You can update directly.

Place the UPDATE folder for the 4.01 CFW in GAME and place the 4.01 Official Update(401.PBP) in that folder as well. Then just run it.

Thanks buddy So I don't do anything with the SDK and translate folder then? What's the point in putting them in the download??
