Great guide man, however, your post

3.80m33-5 UPDATE ONLY
To install the 3.80m33-5 update, you must be running 3.80m33.

Download these files:
PSP Downloads | 3.80 M33-5 Update
^^^ 3.80m33-5 Update

#1. Once the file has been extracted and the memory stick formated, open the folder, and you will see a UPDATEfolder. Right click the UPDATE folder and select copy

#2. Start the USB connection, navigate to the GAME150 change to GAME folder, right click on a blank spot on the screen and select PASTE.

#3. Exit the USB connection, go to the GAME menu memory stick and click the UPDATE.

#4. Congratulations, you are now on 3.80m33-5 by Team M33

Default 3.40oe-3.90m33 Custom Firmware Installation Guide. VERY NOOB friendly

how long is the actual update supposed to be?

I clicked the UPDATE option on my PSP already and it its been a black screen for quite a while now.

EDIT:
I'm trying to update to 3.90m33, but the 3.90 official firmware is corrupted, if i download the file from the official site PlayStation.com, will it still work?

Default 3.40oe-3.90m33 Custom Firmware Installation Guide. VERY NOOB friendly

ok, I guess I'm the stupid guy.

so I was on 3.4 OE-A
went straight to 3.52m33 then 3.52m33-4

*the m33-4 update took literally 2 sec so maybe it is the prob but my system status say i am now running 3.52m33-4

everything works fine as the 3.52m33-4 should but when i try to update to the 3.71m33 it gives me the message "this firmware requires 3.52m33-3 or higher".... it goes blank (doesnt turn off) then goes to the normal start menu. i have also tried downloadign straight from dark alex site but its the same file i'm sure

anyone have any clue

Hey, I created an account just to say thank you for the guide.

I'm one of the early homebrew users (back in the Lumines and GTA eloader days) ... so when this Custom firmware stuff started showing up, I had absolutely *no* idea where to begin.

But now I'm up to the latest and greatest firmware thanks to your guide (I've kind of just been letting my PSP sit around for months). Now all I gotta do is work on figuring out how to go about adding things like emulators - Genesis, SNES, etc (although I get the feeling that'll be pretty simple).

Anyway. Thanks for teh awesome-ness.

sorry its been so long for replys on this.
spider run the m33 creator first. its the same as going from 3.40oe to 3.52m33
you still need to update to 3.52m33-4 before you can go to 3.80m33

sirranrap, ive heard of this problem before, but i do not know where that error is coming from. try restoring the default settings. if that doesnt work, try running chilly willys key cleaner.

Kab... once you get the emulators, instructions will be included in the read me text.
