Default 3.40oe-3.90m33 Custom Firmware Installation Guide. VERY NOOB friendly

first did i do the right one for a psp slim version 3.80?

YOU MUST BE RUNNING at least 3.52m33-4 (on the fat) or 3.71m33-4 on the slim to install this firmware

if i did do it right when i got the update ver. 3.90 in my game section on the memory stick and i activate it , it says the couldn't be started. i tried activating the game kernel but i could not

"YOU MUST BE RUNNING at least 3.52m33-4 (on the fat) or 3.71m33-4 on the slim to install this firmware"

I seem to be having the same problem as gamerguy. I followed all of the directions as listed. I'm wondering what went wrong. It gives me an error saying that this game cannot be run. I'm on a fat PSP with firmware version 3.73.

I'm a noob at this but I'm hoping to figure it all out pretty quick. To prove I'm a noob I have a couple of questions: What advantages are there to having this modded software? Would I be able to play downloaded psp games directly from my memory card? Or regular playstation games, emulated? I have a .PBP playstation 1 game and I thought if I downloaded custom firmware I could play the game but again, I had a problem when putting it on my system. Hopefully someone can enlighten as to anything I can do. If it helps, I got the 3.73 firmware from the game Final Fantasy: Crisis Core which just came out in the end of March.

I forgot to say, thanks to drew00629 for putting this guide together in the first place. It really is dumbass proof but apparently, not enough for a big dumbass like me. =]

Okay, I know you haven't been able to get back to me yet Drew but I wanted to add another couple questions without editing my original post.

Would I have to necessarily make a Pandora's battery and then format my Magic Memory Stick in order to input a CFW... if that's the case that's why I wasn't able to upgrade mine in the first place. -_-

I've been reading a lot since my first post and I'm slowly piecing together what's what. Thanks in advance. =]

Default 3.40oe-3.90m33 Custom Firmware Installation Guide. VERY NOOB friendly

Hey, I'm on the step #3 on upgrading from 1.50 to 3.52m33. Kxploit permanent patcher is fine, but the other is corrupted. What should I do?

edit: So I even went to dark alex's page to get the cfw (hosted on exophase) and it also gives me a corrupted file on my mem stick along with the kxploit permanent patcher. Should I just run the patcher?

2nd edit: So I figured out that it is supposed to be corrupted. Thanks for the guide, Drew.

Default 3.40oe-3.90m33 Custom Firmware Installation Guide. VERY NOOB friendly

Hi All,

I am a newbie, last time I mod my psp was almost a year ago. Someone did it for me so I need to catch up, I need some advice to upgrade to newier version since most new games will not work.

I have two mod downgrader files in my psp now, The first one is "Return to 1.50 from FW2.xx", the second is "Device Hook PSP Firmware Emulator v0.46" by BOOSTER. I think I am boot the psp into 1.5 and using the firmware emulator to load iso and cso.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I need some help to go to the newier version, I am so behind.

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

3.80m33-5 UPDATE ONLY
To install the 3.80m33-5 update, you must be running 3.80m33.

Download these files:
PSP Downloads | 3.80 M33-5 Update
^^^ 3.80m33-5 Update

#1. Once the file has been extracted and the memory stick formated, open the folder, and you will see a UPDATEfolder. Right click the UPDATE folder and select copy

#2. Start the USB connection, navigate to the GAME150 folder, right click on a blank spot on the screen and select PASTE.

#3. Exit the USB connection, go to the GAME menu memory stick and click the UPDATE.

#4. Congratulations, you are now on 3.80m33-5 by Team M33

in the above section, in step #2, copying the file to game150 did not work for me. i tried the game folder and it updated without a hitch. just letting ya know that ive been following the guide since the 1.5 upgrade and this didnt work for me. maybe it needs an update or something. thanks for the guide. maybe you can add a section on what to do if you already have firmware installed. i had to scroll through a few pages to find the info. realized i did not need the kxploit files and that i needed to install stuff in the game150 folder instead of the game folder. yeah i know, god forbid we actually look up info on our own right? but then again, this is supposed to be an idiot proof guide so might wanna add that for other idiots like me, lol. thanks again

sorry, life has been pretty hectic lately.

Ive been in other forums where this seems to be a problem. did you format the memory stick prior to the 3.52m33-4> 3.71m33 update?

if you have a pandora battery, then just follow one of the numerous tutorials to completely bypass the downgrade process... or use the files in my sig. its another noob proof tutorial/packet

Firmware Installed: 3.03 OE-C

Default 3.40oe-3.90m33 Custom Firmware Installation Guide. VERY NOOB friendly

Hi peeps,

A very noob noob here.

I'm at 3.03 OE-C and I want to upgrade to the latest (3.90 M33?) fw version. Can you please tell me how to do it?

I actually been searching from all psp mod forums on how should I do it, but I couldnt find a guide specifically, from 3.03 OE-C version. So I thought it might be easier to get help here.

Some questions:
1. So, i'm at 3.03 OE-C, should I dowgrade first to 1.50 to get going to the latest one?
2. If yes, what's the best way to downgrade? I've read the Ultimate Downgrader Guide but I didnt see the steps to downgrade from 3.03 OE-C. On that guide I've read this :
"3.03-3.50 Can be downgraded with a copy of Lumines (US or EU version of lumines only at this time, not JAP)"
Is this what I'm looking for? is 3.03 same with 3.03 OE-C? What if i dont have a copy of Lumines UMD?

3. lastly, If i dont need to downgrade to 1.50, please help me or point me to any sites for the guides.

Thanks!
Huzz

Default 3.40oe-3.90m33 Custom Firmware Installation Guide. VERY NOOB friendly

Hi Drew,

Just want to say that this is a grate guide. I've been away from the PSPMod scene for over a year. So you could say I've returned back to the noob state.. ;-) My cfw was 3.40oeA until today...I JUST upgraded it to 3.52M33, thanks to your guide.
I would suggest, if you can, add one thing on your guide, saying something like "There is no need to downgrade from 3.40oeA to 1.5" or something along that line. Because the very first time when I read the guide the first question that came to me was..."ok, you can upgrade from 1.5 to 3.52 but what happens to the people who've already have 3.40oeA? Then I just read the entire thread and figured that I'll just skip from step 1 thru 6. And start with the re-naming part of pbp. So basically it would be cool if you could just add another line in your guide saying that if a person who already have 3.40oeA can skip step 1 thru 6 and go on with re-naming and copying the pbp files.
Just my two cent. ;-)
In ANY event, this guide is very noob-proof already.

/forums/psp-firmware-guides/19101-universal-psp-m33-installation. html

I finally got it after reading the above post and saw the line "update to 3.52 M33 from 1.50 or any OE versions"

Yeah, i agree with Reef22's suggestion or just say "1.50 or any OE versions" instead of just "1.50"

In any event, this post has been really helpful to me so a big THANKS from me Drew!

Firmware Installed: 3.52M33-4

Default 3.40oe-3.90m33 Custom Firmware Installation Guide. VERY NOOB friendly

During this ===>

YOU MUST BE RUNNING at least 3.52m33-4 (on the fat) or 3.71m33-4 on the slim to install this firmware

Download these files:
PSP Downloads | PSP Custom Firmware 3.90 M33
^^^ 3.90m33
PSP Downloads | 3.90 Firmware Update
^^^3.90 Official Firmware Update
(I suggest making a new folder for each download so you will not mix things up.)

#1. Format your memory stick. Do to this, on the PSP, go to the SETTINGS menu, scroll down until you see SYSTEM SETTINGS.Click it. Now scroll down until you see FORMAT MEMORY STICK click it. It will now ask you if youd like to format the memory stick, and that all information will be lost. Select OK.

#2. Once you have formatted the memory stick, go to the 390m33.rar, right click and select EXTRACT HERE. Inside this file is a file named Update. Right click the UPDATE folder and select COPY.

#3. Start the USB connection and navigate to the Removable Disk by clicking the start menu on your computer, and selecting COMPUTER (or MY COMPUTER). Now click PSP then the GAME Folder.

#4. Inside the GAME folder, right click on a blank spot in the folder and select PASTE.

#5. Go back to the PSP_390_FW_UPDATE.RAR. Right click the file and select EXTRACT HERE.

#6. Once the file has been extracted, right click the EBOOT.PBP and select RENAME.
Rename the file to 390.PBP. Right click it and select COPY.

#7. Navigate back to the removable disk and click thePSP folder, then click the GAME folder , and finally click the UPDATE folder.

#7. Inside the UPDATE folder, right click on a blank spot on the screen and select PASTE.

#8. Exit the USB connection, on the PSP go to the GAME menu click MEMORY STICK and select the UPDATE.

( I pressed X to start the update ... it says:
Unpacking... done.
Please wait... )

( and thats all ... what should I do ... it is still frozen @ this screen ! )

I'm making you a video response right now drew ... !
