PSP CFW ON ANY PHAT OR HACKABLE SLIM ( without pandora ) or 2nd psp and any fw
OK, murphy's law, I posted a loooooong message here explaining my frustration, all the steps I'd tried, nothing worked, blah blah blah.
Then on maybe my 65th try, a miracle occurred and it worked.
Here is what finally worked for me, hope it is helpful to future readers who struggle with this guide.
First off, I've got a Fat, not sure if this matters on a Slim.
Most importantly, the Guide is wrong relative to the download files linked. The original poster must have slightly modified his download package and neglected to update his guide to reflect this later. In the first post, you are instructed to replace the SLIM.TIFF file with PHAT.TIFF. In the RAR package linked, there IS NO PHAT.TIFF FILE. You can look forever but you won't find it. Furthermore, the PHAT directory that is created in the download RAR is incomplete. It just contains a single file called EGGSPLOIT.TIFF. That is the "exploit" picture file that allows you to boot into ChickHEN but it, by itself, is insufficient. You need to go to the SLIM folder and grab the four ChickHEN files (ChickHENA-ChickHEND) and manually copy those into the Phat folder. You can leave Eggsploit.TIFF as-is. The name of the file doesn't matter, but you HAVE to have the four ChickHEN files in the same folder as Eggsploit.tiff or this method won't work.
Then, it does seem to help if you restore your PSP Fat to default settings. Just accept all default settings, don't change a thing. Then IMMEDIATELY after it reboots (don't check anything else), go over to Photo's, then choose your memory card, then the Phat folder. You don't need to press X to launch the image, just scroll down if you have to. You shouldn't have to as the date of the file for Eggsploit.tiff is different than the ChickHEN files so it pops to the top of the list (not bottom as the guide instructs, but since guide is wrong here, it just happens to be on top). You shouldn't have to press X at all, it should just flash your screen and reboot on it's own once the Eggsploit image is visible.
It took me a LOT of tries largely because I was following the guide to the letter and the guide is just incorrect. Good guide otherwise, but that step of replacing slim.tiff with phat.tiff is just bogus. Doesn't exist.
SO now, my big question....
I did all this using a small memory stick, not my normal one. Now do I need to replicate this same memory stick directory/file structure over on my NEW, larger memory stick as well? Or once you've got the firmware in place, you can store the original stick you used for this kind of as a "utility" stick? I used a 512mb one for this purpose but now want to use my 4gb stick so I can store stuff on there.
Ideas?
