I HATE Final Fantasy.
Do not flame me, as I do not flame those who think that FF series is "the best thing to happen to games EVER." I am just stating this so you know when you respond that if it is turn/menu based combat like FF then you are wasting your time and mine.
That said, I love RPGs. Are there any good ones out there for the PSP that aren't a FF game?
I will say that I hate FF as well. That said, FFVII Crisis Core is one of the better NON-turned RPGs on the PSP. Also, don't miss Silverfall.
i think Tales of Eternia isnt turn based. most of the Tales games have used a freeform style to the fights, as in you can move around the battlefield and attack or withdraw from a fight at your own leisure.
Let me repeat.

also, Secret of Evermore

I can't really think of any right now, most RPGs on the PSP are turn-based. Though as julie stated, Tales of Eternia is one. Or try Tales of the World Radiant Mythology. Both are non-turn based.
Valhalla Knights 2 - Remix. don't get any of the others, that's just pure torture.

Did a quick google and didn't see a VK2-Remix. It sounds amazing though. Link2it?
I do understand your hate of turn based rpgs in connection to final fantasy. Final fantasy is overrated, but it's acceptable. I'd give it a chance.
anyway:
If you haven't tried Monster Hunter yet, it's pretty much a slasher/rpg. You go on missions to collect supplies. You use supplies to create armor, which in turn allows you to go on better missions to collect better supplies to create better armor to go to better missions to collect better supplies...
In that aspect it's a RPG. There is no leveling in it though.
Ok, if you hate FF for the turn based aspect, which I understand, I rarely waste time on turn based, there's a prologue to FFVII called "Crisis Core" and it's really acceptable. Good graphics, cool moves, nice story. It's also NOT turn based.
Warriors of the lost empire is one I'm playing now and it's not amazing, but it's got the WRPG feel to it, as you go to dungeons to get money to make armor to wear it to go to better dungeons. It also has leveling. It's a little bland, but it's alota fun if you have a high tolerance for doing the same thing over and over again (everquest, wow, RS, etc)
Brotherhood of the blade is a pretty bland overhead rpg that bears a striking similarity to WOW, but I don't recommend it. It's fun for 15 minutes until you realize how shitty an overhead camera is.
You need to realize, though, and you will, that PSP is for 3rd person shooters and Slashers.
Pokemon and Battletoads.
OK, thanks for the list of games guys and gals. I have a freind who I went to see yesterday. He has a TON of PSP games. Anyway I tried a little of the Monster Hunter, that was rpgish. Also, what would you call Force Unleashed? I feel it is rpgish as well. Anyway, going to try the other games you guys listed tomorrow. Just wish he would sell me some (he is a hoarder) ohh well. Thanks again.
being turn based isnt the issue really. its the fact that most rpgs use overcomplicated battle systems that seem to drown each battle and make it painfully boring. look for games with the simple Attack/Magic/Item/Defend layout and try those out.
anything from the pixel days of rpgs will fit that bill. games like super mario rpg and chrono trigger use very simple battle systems, and they benefit by keeping the fights fun.
they recently released a Lunar game for the psp, so give that a look. its still turn based, but it also comes from the school of "less is more"
