Hello, I'm sort of a noob at this kind of stuff, so I joined hoping someone could answer a question for me...also, sorry if this is in the wrong place!

I have this game that I imported from Japan (I do have the English version of it also, but it's on PSone) and I was wondering if I could change the dialogue/text to English? There is also an English version of this game on the PSP, but what I want to do is just take the text data from the English version and swap it with the Japanese.

I have done that once before on a different game with a patch that translated menus, but I'm not sure how to actually do this myself. I can get the ISO from the game myself...but what should I look for when I open it up? In other words, where would I find the data for the text? Also, could I just delete that and replace it with the one from the English ISO? I don't want to mess anything up.

what you're trying to establish is hexadecimal patching in which cases only happen to japanese ONLY release and are also illegitimate copies because it's a ripped ISO from the original retail product. If you want dialogues/subs to be changed, you should check your options menu for it, if there's non, then there is 0 possibility of retranslating it.

That's a little over my head... I believe what you're saying is that, because the version I'm trying to take the dialogue from has already been translated from the original, I can't use it? I'm sorry for my lack of understanding.

So then it doesn't matter if both versions are legit? I mean, it was released in both languages, not just patched that way. Also, the files are set up exactly the same way. Does that not make a difference, either?

The only reason I still question whether it's possible is because I've seen fanmade translation patches for the JP version, and also cases where people did it backwards and just ripped the audio and stuck in on the EN one...

Anyway, I'd be grateful if you could clear it up for me in more simple terms.
