Old On Pandora's Battery -- What's the difference between hard and soft? 11-29-2007, 04:37 AM   #1 (permalink)

Default On Pandora's Battery -- What's the difference between hard and soft?

I can't post links yet, on account of me being such a "n0oB," but if you search YouTube for "How To Install/Uninstall Pandora's Battery" you'll see what I'm referring to. It's a two-part tutorial on how to create a Pandora Battery using only software.

I was under the impression that the fifth pin needed disconnecting, as instructed on this site's guides. That requires sketchy re-soldering OR the purchasing of a new battery because without the fifth pin, the battery can no longer charge (or so I'm told).

What is the difference between a hard and soft Pandora's Battery? Since no damage (or additional battery) is required for the latter, it is obviously preferable. But it seems like there should be a catch. What is it?

Well it's kinda obvious..

Hard mod = Hard modded battery, opening it up yourself and soldering or pluck a pin off some chip.

Soft mod = software modded, a program turns the battery into a pandora.

Mmm, yes, quite.

My question, though, was what the difference (beyond the obvious) is. Why would anyone want to waste a PSP battery when they can achieve the same result through software?

The hardware method seems to be the established way on these forums, but why? IS it in fact all the same? If it is, "hard-modding" the battery would be inferior, it would seem.

But my suspicion, and the reason for my question, is that the hard mod method has some advantage over the software method. Is that the case or not?

Because you need a MODDED psp to do a softmod, a hardmod would be easier for people who don't have a modded psp and don't want to buy a pre-made set..

The only different between the softmod and hardmod is that softmod can be converted back easily, hardmod needs to be soldered back etc, not the normal users skill.

Otherwise they do the same exact thing..

you can fix the battery after you have chopped the fifth pin
a bit of solder, and the battery is good again.
