Old Striped screw holes (not screws) 08-13-2008, 03:24 AM   #1 (permalink)

Default Striped screw holes (not screws)

So, just for fun and to learn my way around the insides of a PSP I took mine apart today and tighted the screws to tight and now neither one of the ones that sit under the left hand side (left trigger side) will grip and unfortunately the d-pad and analog stick are not working properly.

Might any one have a good suggestion on how I can temporarily/permanently fix this without getting a new cast screws.

Thanks in advance...

take out one of the other screws, go to a Home Depot and see if they have any like it. Probably wouldn't cost too much. MIght have to get them in bulk though.

Screws are fine as previously stated it is the screw holes (threading) that are striped.

ok there is this stuff you can get at napa or something, its like an epoxy, you mix it and you stuff it in the holes then take a screw, and then out it in then pull the screw out, then wipe off excess, then out the face plate on and put the screw in like normal, then wait till it dries, then tighten it a slight bit more then VOILA brand new thread, its call new thread or something supid, i use it on vehicles all the time.

this happened to my faceplate. I just bought a new one, but I plan on filling it with the epoxy mentioned above. So i have a backup faceplate

I looked up epoxy on Napaonline.com and found something called quik fix but it's $22 not sure it that is what you're referring to or not so let me know.

Not sure you're actually reading what I type or not.

The screws won't grip the threading on the face plate because the plastic screw holes no long have any threads. So, the body and the faceplate on that side will not touch the separation is causing my analog stick to move because not all of the contacts are touching.

I would try wrapping alil tape around the grooves of the screw and see it that helps.

edit: electrical tape is what i would use

You could try a silicon based adhesive(Most auto parts stores have it for about $10) and place it in the screw hole..then screw the screw in and presto..you have new threads..it may take a few tries as the holes are much smaller then what im used to working with but oh well..its worth a shot..

make sure that before you screw in the screw when the epoxy's in, make sure that you clamp down the side that is loose. if you dont clamp it down, your obviously just going to end up with an even bigger prob.
