Exclamation New to PSP mod: what shall I do?

Firstly let me say I've searched high and low across the net and even on these forums and have found some much various information I need some clearifacation.

So I’m new to the PSP mod scene and in fact only have PS2 mod experiences. I don’t yet have a PSP; I would like to buy one new. But what is needed for mod and hack the PSP? I have seen post saying that the mod-chip “U.P.” is the best route I’ve seen others saying that’s its not needed, because everything can be done with firmware. Yet I have found articles saying that in order to hack a PSP with firmware you have to have a PSP with a specific version of firmware one it. I’ve searched many forums including this and found some much information and so much contradictory information, my brain has done been friend.

Here’s what I want to do if possible:

• Run emulators without having to reprogram or swap firmware to run a different emulator.
• I want to preferably be able to keep the SONY PSP GUI while being able to have extra features [e.g. emulators]. Essentially I want the mod to be as seamless and hidden as possible. In the past it’s been my experience that with PS2’s when you mod-chip them the whole ‘operating system’ or ‘GUI’ is changed.
• I want to be able to still play any PSP games released without having to un-mod or re-mod my PSP.
• I want to be able to mod from a newly purchased system not have to hunt down a certain release on e-bay or some such.

Possible? What do I need to do?

UP is outdated..what you should research is Pandora's Battery(Look in gudes section for Hercule's Guide on pandora)
