No UMD icon and not CFW capable. How do I fix that?
What could possibly cause a used PSP 2001 to not play UMDs and not have the icon available on the front screen?
I bought the PSP to unbrick my PSP as there was nobody willing to lend me theirs to install make a Magic Memory Stick. I figured that the UMD was no problem since I could always install CFW on it and have no need for the UMD feature, but so far I have not been able to install CFW on it. I've tried Catb50s, Rain's, Total Newbie Installer, and Pandora Deluxe with no luck. Now I'm starting to thing that this 2001 has a TA-088 motherboard. I've heard of some software that identifies the motherboard type and version, but I haven't found it yet. If anybody has it or knows where I can look, let me know.
My goal now is to have the UMD working, but I don't know where to begin. If anybody has any suggestions I will give them all a try.
The PSP looks brand new! Go figure. |

the umd reader could have gone bad, is it OFW or CFW?
well the color of your psp indicates whether or not it is hackable |

No UMD icon and not CFW capable. How do I fix that?
I've got a black piano PSP. Not sure if it is OFW or CFW, but if it was CFW wouldn't I be able to downgrade using a MMS?
Thanks for the reply.
I am still looking for a way to get the UMD to work. Peoples, please contribute your knowledge.
BTW, I just found the GUIDE that I should have found earlier before my thread to help me identify whether mine has a TA-088v3 mobo. Here it is for those reading this thread. It has the link further down the thread. Keep reading. Sorry, but I don't have 15 posts yet and so the name is the only thing I could post. If you type the "How . . . " part you should find it.

Has anybody who has opened up their PSP disconnected the UMD drive and compared what happens to the icon? |

if it was a little before the 3000 came out it isn't hackable Quote:

The PSP looks brand new! Go figure. | The program your looking for is called PSPIdent and you need CFW/ChickHEN to use it.

No UMD icon and not CFW capable. How do I fix that?
Well, I have since opened up the PSP and have found the words TA-088
Since it will not take any of the MMSs I can assume that it is of the v3 variety
WHile open I looked at the UMD drive and all the connectors seemed OK. When I turned it on for the first time without a memory stick the search button on the bottom right turned on for about half a second and then never returned. When I installed a UMD it did nothing. It never attempted to read it. Does anybody know if this would be a problem with the PSP circuit board or a problem with the UMD drive? Thanks. |

have a 2001 and a 3001 after installing CFW 3.51 i got the same problem. I can actually hear the laser going but the motor will not spin. i have a 3rd psp that is working with and older cfw im going to try and see what caused it. From what i have done I think its either turning off UMD CACHE & UMD AUTO-START (which is usually done to make chickenHEN work better) before running the CFW. of just the new version of the CFW. my psp worked fine up untill in ran cfw 3.51 but it was also the first time i ran it with the above setting off. It worked great for 3 months
ALL there are slims with T-90 Using ChickenHEN |

try upgrading your cfw e to 3.6, but if that don't fix could be hardware or firmware problem |
