Old Songs on PSP-3000 running 6.00 OFW 09-22-2009, 04:40 PM   #1 (permalink)

Default Songs on PSP-3000 running 6.00 OFW

I recently upgraded my PSP 3000 to 6.00 (it came with 5.51) OFW. The audio player isn't the most impressive I have come across. The sound through my old CD-walkman SONY earphones is superb. But the MP3 songs jitter/skip a bit when moving from one to next. I am not sure if it also happened on 5.51 OFW or only on shuffle mode only.

The shuffle mode does not shuffle the folders - only songs within each folder. That's another bug. Folders go sequentially.

The preset equalizer options aren't great either. Given that this isn't the primary purpose of this machine, I don't see why it shouldn't be. I hope they work on the audio capability of the player a bit in the next firmware revision.

The sound should not jitter at all. sounds crisp to me...

May be it is because the memory card is slow? The jitter only happens at the beginning of a song, and not all the time. I am starting to think it is more to do with accessing the songs on the stick than it is with the PSP itself.

Press /\ on the memory stick icon and check the information, what does it say

I did following and I am now yet to notice the startup MP3 jitter -

a) I disabled the dynamic normalization from sound settings - I believe it was trying to do a lot of work to normalize the song to match the previous one.

b) And I just removed the UMD that's inside - but this is a less important step because UMD isn't accessed and shouldn't slow down anything particularly in this manner.
