Completely new at this...

I bought my first PSP a couple of days ago, and merrily chirped along updating to the latest firmware as I do with my PS3 as it wouldn't let me play a game without doing so. The firmware I updated to was 6.00.

Now, belatedly, I discover the potential of the PSP lies in its near perfect PSX emulator. I want to play Breath of Fire 4 on the go OH SO BADLY.

My question is simple - how do I do this? I've perused the net for a while trying to find an answer, but am getting nothing clear cut.

Do I need a CFW to play it? I have the game disc to rip, but is it simply a case of ripping it and putting it on the PSP/Memory Stick (I'm sure it's more complicated)? Am I screwed regarding custom firmware because I upgraded to 6.00?

It's a PSP3000, and it started on firmware 5.05 (I think, but I could be very wrong). I don't really want to be buying batteries or opening the thing up, so I'm hoping for a download/file transfer method (if anything), else I'll wait.

I'm sure the answer to all of this lies somwhere here, and I apologise for my laziness in not searching harder and my doubtless repetition.

P.S. My limited reading seems to indicate the PSP-3000 is 'unhackable' at this time - am I doomed to never having Breath of Fire 4 in portable form?

It's unhackable. The only way you can play psx games is if you buy them directly from sony.

Or buy a older psp and downgrade it, to get custom firmware and then play psx on it.

Wow, that sucks =/. Is there nothing on the horizon for the PSP3000 then? Or is it just a lost cause?
I don't really have the money at the moment to buy ANOTHER PSP, not least because I have a PS3 game library to maintain! =P

Is there no work-around? Like using the chickHEN thing I keep reading about, I seem to see a lot of people with 3000s getting CFW. Maybe I'm misreading though.

They're getting temporary custom firmware. And only way to get it at the moment is to be on 5.03 Official Firmware.

And I take it I am now stuck with 6.00 because of my hasty download, meaning I cannot utilise this temp application?

nope you cant for now. your hope is for quick finding an exploit for 6.00 but i doubt that this will be any time soon thought
