Default GUIDE TO::Making Pandora's Battery (*new method*)

Thanks Midian, I didn't know I had to put it in a file. But now I have a different issue. What do I do when it says "Write MS Boot Code" and then below that, it has C:\msinst>?

Also, I'm not sure if I did my battery right...

I completely removed the pin 5. It was a fat psp battery.
When I put it in the psp, the green light doesn't come on. Is that normal?
Please help

And thanks for your assistance so far.

PS: Do you have a AIM Screen name or something? Maybe we could just talk for a couple minutes instead of me just sending a few messages throughout the day.

Mine said "Write MS Boot Code" when it was finished making the mem stick.

With my battery it didn't light up at first either...however, it did take a charge even after I had modded it. I left it overnight and today I was able to use it. It seems it just has 0 charge to start with.

you didnt remove the 5th pin.
you know the 5th pin is one of the corner pin, so if necessary, remove all the corner pins and it will still work (tested on a psp fat battery)

It moves the primary partition of the memory stick (what you see as E:\, F:\, etc) by 256 kilobytes to make space for msipl.bin.

welding that pin?

PS: when I charge the battery, the LED became red (charging) and after sometime (one night), it became green. So what is happening?

Default GUIDE TO::Making Pandora's Battery (*new method*)

I did everything correct, as far as I can tell, I only run into a snag right at the end: I get the screen come up with the options:

Press X to downgrade using ms0: /UPDATE.PBP
Press O to backup nand to ms0: /nand-dump.bin
Press [ ] to restore nand from ms0: /nand-dump.bin

The first instruction is to hit [ ]. However, it then asks me to either press X to restore nand without idstorage or press L+R+start+select to restore nand with idstorage. Either one gives me a "Cannot open file" error. I also tried pressing O and dumping, but it doesn't help the error screen or any of the further errors.

I went ahead onto to the 2nd instruction anyhow. Everything installs just fine without any errors, but when I get to the final step (plug in power, then battery, then take out power) I get the BSOD. It lets me hit O and starts the PSP, but when I go to the system settings it says all I have is 1.50 without any M33. I can access and install an older version of M33, but I still won't be able to boot on battery power without the Pandora's Battery screen coming back up. I'm guessing that all this mess could be solved by properly dumping the nand, so lets take this one step at a time. Any suggestions?

You need to rename the backed up NAND to be able to restore. Anyhow, you're still good. No need to restore, yet. Might be a good idea to backup NAND now that you're on 1.50 before you start flashing M33 firmware. Flashing always carries a risk of bricking.

As for converting your battery to normal (assuming you did a softmod) and you still have the files to create the battery on your memory stick
1) turn off psp
2) remove psp's battery
3) plug-in psp's power adapter
4) turn on psp
5) plug-in psp's battery
6) run Pandora's Battery Creator
7) convert battery back to normal (choose the option to change serial number to 12345678)

That should fix it.

If you did a hardmod, then just solder back the pin that you took out.

I didn't read all of the posts....but isn't it hard-modding a battery when you remove the pin? You said soft-mod.

Default GUIDE TO::Making Pandora's Battery (*new method*)

I had trouble understanding what you said about softmod too haha. According to the guide I softmodded, which is apparently safe and non-risky. I failed to see how creating a small electrical spark when I tried to remove the pin was all that safe. Anyhow, onto further developments...

This morning I tried getting into my PSP again through the normal power, but now the screen blanks out after a second. I went back to the batt and tried restoring the nand with no luck. Pressed X to flash all the M33 firmware, which didn't give me any trouble. But when I went back to normal power, I'm still getting the BSOD but the screen goes black again.

I also have some trouble with the "just solder the pin back in part." I don't know where you guys got those awesome soldering skills, but kudos to anyone who can solder something smaller than an apostrophe'. It was a miracle I managed to remove it without destroying the whole battery, so to make things easier I'm just going to grab a normal battery from Wal-Mart sometime later.

Edit: I started from the beginning again, just to make sure I didn't do anything stupid. I formatted the stick, threw in all the folders from "The File You Need" download, and retried. I'm still getting the "cannot find file" error when trying to restore my NAND, but according to ilovejedd this shouldn't be a problem. Flashed the M33 firmware (for the first time on formatted stick) with success. I went back to cord power, and I'm back where I started. I get the BSOD, but now I don't get a blanked screen. I can only access the Pandora's Battery Creator if I install the old version of M33 first, but I suppose I hardmodded (pulled out a pin) so it wouldn't help me anyways.

Conclusion: All I need to do is repeat the steps again (with a regular battery on hand!) and on the last step of replacing the Pandora with the regular battery, I should no longer get a BSOD. Correct?

a wal-mart psp battery costs around $25 for a regular and $35 for a good gold battery
