Default GUIDE TO::Making Pandora's Battery (*new method*)

hey,..i followed every step exactly the way u put it, and even opened up the psp slim's battery and made it into pandora with ur guide. Its my first time opening up a handheld and messing with things. I tested the battery and just the green light comes on. The i did all the formatting with CMD and got to the last message where it says "write ms boot code",..but after that, when i put in the battery and the memory stick at the same time, nothing happens. Also,..i have psp official firmware 3.93. Do i have to wait a while? I waited a minute and nothing. The battery was fully charged before making it into a pandora battery as well.

Unhappy GUIDE TO::Making Pandora's Battery (*new method*)

Here's my story:
I am using Windows Vista. I don't know ANYONE with a PSP, which obviously means I don't know anyone with a PSP with CFW or 1.5 FW. And I need to use this method because I have Sony's 3.71 FW on my PSP (stupidly upgraded back in December before I even found out about the PSP homebrew scene).

I followed the guide to the T. First I made the MMS. I formatted using my computer. Even though I'm using vista, I was able to do everything using your guide. I got the "write MS BOOT CODE" message at the end of my CMD after the msinst ? msipbl.bin command (running as the administrator).

Then, I took out the battery, and using a safety pin, popped off the 5th pin. I'm sure it is the correct pin. Then I put the memory stick back into my PSP. Then, when I put the battery in there were no lights! In fact, my PSP won't turn on unless I have the AC adapter plugged in

When I DO have the AC adapter and the battery in and I power up, it acts like normal. Shows the normal splash screen and then goes to the normal menus.

My questions:
Does this mean the battery is messed up (I ordered a backup off of Amazon yesterday already) or does it mean the MMS is not correctly made so it won't boot?

THANKS A BUNCH IN ADVANCE!!!

Either the battery is messed up or it's completely dead. Try charging it (put it in after your PSP is on with the AC plug). You can check the battery info - it should tell you if it sees it and if it's charging. When it's 100%, try again. If no info (acts like it's not there) then it's probably a paper weight. But cxan still be a form of entertainment, chuck it in a fire and stand back. Oh, don't forget the video cam. Or you can buy a new battery and return yours in the box for a refund, seems there's a lot of that going around.

Thanks I think it's fucked up even though all I did was pop off that one pin... :/ I don't have money to keep wasting on batteries I'm breaking so what are my options?

Will the Datel Tool Battery work?

Wow... I'm at a loss as to why anyone would try and make their own with an alternative that's cheaper than the mandatory replacement battery! Especially because the work is so delicate!

I think I'll have to pick that up. My original battery is officially dead (I think I may have made a connection between the 5 and 6 pin with the sewing needle I was using to pop off the 5 pin, and I've read that shorts the battery) and I've got another coming in the mail. Don't want to waste another $19 on a battery so I'll just pick that up! Thanks!

While I'm not a N00b at computers but I'm an Uber'N00b at PSP. I was doing the magic memory stick when I got to these instruction...
*go back to CMD window.
*type the following command "msinst\msinst.exe X msinst\msipl.bin" (again where X=psp drive letter) note: NO quotation
*It should ask you " Are You Sure ? [Y]
*Press Y and Hit ENTER
*The last line should say " Write MS BOOT CODE "

What it actually said was "PSP MS IPL Installer
Load IPL code msipl.bin
Can't open msipl.bin

c:\msinst>

Your move.

I have one question.
If you view the magic memory stick with you PSP regularly (Games> Memory Stick>) what files should you see?
I see 1 corrupted data file, and "Pandora Battery Firm Installer".

I am going to attempt making the Magic Memory stick again now that I've installed XP on my laptop (FINALLY). Just wanted to see if I really have to before I do.

Make sure the "msipl.bin" file is in your "msinst" folder. I would try redownloading it and replacing it just in case.

Corrupted files are OK and typically a by product of using 1.50 homebrew. Soetimes enabling "Hide Corrupt Icons" in recovery menu will not show them.

You should be able to delete the installer if you are already on CFW.

I am on regular Sony 3.71 firmware. My battery broke when I was trying to create a pandora's battery. I am just trying to see if I have the "magic memory stick" done correctly since I don't have a pandora's battery to boot from the memory stick.
