hello everyone,i just wanna share this trick that i got coz the other day i was so bothered about my psp not running well with some games, specially the nice ones.the other day i bought a 4gb memstick and tried all the modifications on my 3.03oec psp and all went well except when i tried installing mk unchained and nba2007 coz the games logged so slow.i cant even play the mortal kombat coz it hangs after the intro then i found this solution and tried it out and now everything went well with all the games....

hope this helps our newbies here also who have the same problem like me.try it out......

2GB users who've upgraded to 4GB will notice slower read/write access on their MS. The reason is that 2GB is formatted at FAT16 by default and 4GB is formatted at FAT32 by default.

Want a proof? Try formatting your 2GB or 4GB w/ a filesystem FAT32 and play games like GTA, NFS, DJ Max Portable, and/or Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection (CSO).

    Some Facts
    1. PSP can read/write faster on MS having FAT16 filesystem instead of FAT32 filesystem.
    2. 4GB is the highest for FAT16 not 2GB. The reason why Windows and PSP formats a 4GB w/ a filesystem of FAT32 is for compatibility. 4GB FAT16 is not compatible for Win95/98/Me but if you have WinXP then you'll have nothing to worry.

**REMINDER BEFORE FORMAT BACK UP YOUR MEMSTICK**

    How to format specifying filesystem
    1. Go to Start Menu -> Run...
    2. Type 'cmd' without quotes
    3. At command prompt, type:
'format x: /q /fs:FAT' (without quotes, this is for FAT16 filesystem)
'format x: /q /fs:FAT32' (without quotes, this is for FAT32 filesystem)
(change x to your MS drive)

If asks for a Force Dismount, choose yes.
If it warns you about compatibility problems on FAT16, just ignore it.
If it asks for a Volume Label, just type anything or none at all.

    FAQs:
    1. Does it damages the Memory Stick?
    2. No. Its safe.

yes it will and so far for me the issue of hanging games like mortal kombat and nba2007 was solved with this.about your files you must back it up first then just paste it again after format....

you will notice it because the iso games which are running so slow will run normal after this procedure.....use the first one because the first one is for fat16 and since we want our 4gb to be converter from fat32 into fat16 so we use----'format x: /q /fs:FAT' (without quotes, this is for FAT16 filesystem)

Wow good job ! Alfox! this is for sure needed! I have no idea of what a FAT is exactly :P, The only thing i know is that hard drive are formatted using either FAT16/32 or NTFS which is faster than any of the others. I'l try this out when I get my 4GB.. I own a 2.

Thanks for this Alfox!! amazing job.!

Can you do this using the psp as a memory stick reader or do you have to have the memory stick in a real memory stick reader?

    Bought Value Pack: 3/24/05
    TA-081 Black PSP
    2-4 GB MS
    1-32MB MS

    Firmware History: 1.5......3.03>1.5>3.03 OE-C >3.40 OE-A> 3.90 M33-2 (Screen broke, I need to order one)
