UMD Drive problem

I'm not sure where to put this thread so I'll put it here.

Basically I bought a PSP off my friend and the UMD doesn't work anymore. She says he boyfriend threw it up against the wall but who knows that might not be the problem.

So I added custom firmware and such but I really wanna know what's up with the UMD drive.

I put in a UMD and boot up the PSP, When the UMD is in it doesn't get passed the Loading screen (the theme with the little wavy lines) and it just sits there with the little lines waving around and nothing happens. I eject the UMD and it goes right the the menu. Anytime the UMD is put in it basically semi-freezes the PSP. When the UMD is in I can hear it desperately trying to read but nothing happens.

Oh and not only that, There is no UMD option under Game menu. Just Game Sharing, Saved Data Utility, Memory Stick.

Could it be a problem in one of the flash's?

Anyone heard of this problem and know how to pinpoint it.

The lens might be broken or out of place. And putting custom firmware on it wouldn't help the UMD drive at all. If someone told you that, they're mistaken. The big thing CFW does is allow you to put UMD backups on your memory stick and play them from there instead of the UMD drive.

Well I know about the firmware and such. But I find it weird that the UMD selection is gone completely like it doesn't exist.

try making sure the disk is actually spinning. i had the same problem. i fixed it by bending the metal things in the ubd drive to that they pressed against the plastic door or the drive. (pop off the door from the metal casing and you'll see those two pushy metal things im talkign about) if your interseted in selling the psp, i'll buy it

UMD selection isn't gone completely. You can still play UMD's with CFW. The lens is just messed up and seeing as how it was thrown against a wall what do you expect.

The UMD option was gone BEFORE I put the custom firmware on in the first place. It had Sony's retail 2.5 firmware on it. I know about the UMD option in recovery and how CFW works, at least the basics. I modded my brothers PSP for him about a year and a half ago.

She told me it didn't stop working right away after he threw it up against the wall but at some point after it stopped working

When I boot it up with a UMD in the drive I put my ear up to it and I can hear it trying to read so it's definitely responding.

Oh and how exactly do I pop off the drive? Do I need to unscrew it or does it pop off with enough force?


Ok so I hit the button that tells the drive that a UMD is in and the lens pops up and down and the motor spins smoothly. But it doesn't look like it's moving on the tracks at all..

EDIT: If I leave the disc in for a good 2 minutes it finally gives me a "The disc could not be read."

Ok so the problem seems obvious now, It's not moving on the tracks.

Anyone know how I would fix this problem?

problem fixed! I went to town on the gear underneath the motor and wala!

I came on these forums for help, Not to have a smart ass tell me how to spell.

For gods sake it's the internet. If I went around telling people on the internet how to spell there would be no end to it.

I wasn't trying to be a smart ass. I've gotten on ton of people in this forum for yelling at "noobs" when they're just here for help. I was just trying to tell you it's voila in case you didn't actually know how to spell it. No offense, I've just taken French for the past 7 years and get annoyed by little things like that. We haven't posted for a day as it has been dropped, Sorry for triple posting. It's just that I've posted on this forum before and haven't received help for my question and posting with new information seems better then typing "BUMP"
