Mine was a fat. Haven't upgraded to a slim yet, but I'm not sure I want to, heh. I don't like the feel of them (at least the silver one that I've played with).

Loosening the screw on a phat or a slim? I know the phat's analog calibration can be affected by the tightness of those screws...

Put pressure on the psp near the joystick if it stays in place then the reason is the gel thingy connects funy or something... I had the same problem so im playing my psp with tape around near the joystick until tomorro when I get my screw set =)
That advice is only valid for the phat. The slim doesn't use the gel block.
i was having the same problem. i fixed mine by bending the two tabs on the back of the analog stick out alittle. i dont know if this helps you out any but it did for me. btw, i have a phat psp.
Hi, hope it's not a bad thing to resurrect this old thread but I found it in a Google search. Anyway I have a PSP 1000 and I find that it has, on all 4 directions of the analog stick / nub movement, a horrendous deadband of maybe 1/3 of the travel in each direction before I get any movement (I haven't measured it, but this is what it feels like) and then I get the game character to move very slowly , then just another 1mm movement gets the character walking, then another 1mm gets the character running, which is rediculous IMHO compared to the PS2 and it's very good quality analog sticks.
This being in the game Tomb Raider Legend (NTSC, USA version) on PSP and comparing it to the same game on PS2.
Is this normal for a PSP 1003? Is the PSP 2000 better? Is the PSP 3000 better? Is the PSP GO better? Is the new PSP N1000 better?
I also find it rediculous that since about 1977 there have been proportional radio control transmitters with perfect analog sticks with like 5 per cent deadband and perfect response, yet they couldn't in 2005 create a decent analog stick for the PSP...
