So I bought this PSP used on eBay and the owner told me that his analog stick was a little sticky. It was cheap so I got it anyway. The analog stick was fine at first but got worse and worse after using it. Eventually it just got stuck in one position. I'm not faint-hearted really so I took out the analog unit and took it apart and saw that the sliders weren't catching correctly. I tried fixing the unit but it was gone.

I got a new analog unit but it had the same problem. I thought it was defective so I got ANOTHER one. AND IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. I realized my idiocy and played my PSP with NO analog unit in, and it has the same ghosting effect that pulls automatically to the upper left.

Anyone know how to fix this? Is it an issue with my analog stick controller? With my mobo? Any help? Anybody?

Here is some reading that might give you some options.
    Joysen for joystick sensitivity
JoySens 1.3 released, PSP Slim Hacks - PSP Hacks
    joystick adjustment
tutorial on psp analog stick adjustment - Google Search
Unsure about joysen, never used it so be cautious & if you make an adjustment take note of it,so if you have a problem you can always go back to were you started

I had exactly this problem, it was to the bottom left tho, it was infuriating.
I tried fixing it, but all my efforts were fruitless.

So in the end, I sent it to GT Electronics. It cost about £25

    (Games Console Repair - PSP - Xbox 360 - PS3 - DS - Wii)

    That's only UK though.

    Hope that helps.

Could this be more of a hardware issue? Is the analog stick unit supposed to fit snugly with the motherboard, cuz mine is little loose. Also, even without the analog unit in the PSP, it still drifts up and to the left...shouldn't this imply that there is a hardware issue that can't be solved with Joysens?

ive had the same problem and the thing that fixed it for me was changing the faceplate. what happened with mine was that the screw threads on the old one got loose after a while and it wasnt allowing good contact with the joystick. so i took another faceplate and put it on and it worked fine. ebay has faceplates if you interested in buying any.

Was your model a phat? The slim's analog stick is connected to the motherboard regardless of the faceplate status.

    Thanks for your comment though.

You seriously sound like me down to every detail. I bought a cheap one off of ebay and the analog stick is broken. Goes upper left direction even without the analog part in. I bought two replacement parts as well and neither seem to work. I really wish I can help but it seems like you and me are "exactly" in the same boat.

Edit: I am trying to fix right now and I have discovered something I thought you might want to know. I know it probably isn't recommended but I tried touching the analog's motherboard area with a screw driver and I could control the cursor. Don't know what this means but once I remove the screw driver, it returns to going in the upper left direction.

Okay...so nobody seems to have any answers here. I'll give you an update on what I've tried.

The analog stick pulls up and to the left, which seems to be default for the PSP. From reading other threads, I've seen that whenever there is no input from the analog to the motherboard, that it pulls up and to the left.

I installed Joysens in order to see if it was just a sensitivity/centering issue, but when I pressed note+square, which recenters the nub, it gave the center as -128,-128, which is the upper left corner. This leads me to believe that there is no communication whatsoever between the analog nub and the PSP motherboard.

I had a phat sitting around, so I took out the little rubber piece that sits in the analog unit on the PSP Phat motherboard and placed that in my slim, hoping to insure a connection between the nub and the motherboard, but no go. Centering still reads a -128,-128.

I'll try simply touching the connectors on the motherboard while its on with a screwdriver. and we'll see what happens.

Is there simply something wrong with all 3rd party analog units that they don't go flush up to the motherboard?

Umm..that does nothing. When i calibrate Joysens, even when my nub is completely in the middle, it sets itself as the uppermost left point in the control grid. This leads me to believe that the nub isn't even connecting to the motherboard...

That used to happen with my Playstation 2 controller. I would push it into the forward position and it would just stay there.

I took apart and rebuilt a psp with a broken drive door, and I had the same problem. I was frustrated all to hell by the time I tried the really, really simple solution of loosening the screw in that area by about half a turn. The analog stick was fine afterward.
