    Hi guys,

I was using my PSP in a library, and then put it away in my pocket cuz i needed to do something. i pulled it out again and it looks all messed up. Here's a picture (faceplate off):

Now, I was wondering, could this be maybe because the ribbon connecting the LCD to the PSP is loose or something? Or is it just plain bust? Help and advice appreciated.

    Thanks.

That looks like a 2000 and unfortunately the most expensive one. The screen is easily replaced but finding a cheap one could be difficult. Is this a 2000 or 3000?

EDIT: Here is a cheap one for a 2000:http://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-DISPLAY-...item4844a14f89 this is as cheap as your going to get for a 2000 screen

So is there no way to fix it? Why would it just break though? It was just in my pocket the whole time, and my pocket wasn't touched or anything...? Can't it be due to the ribbon being loose or something? And yes, it is a PSP-2000 (Slim).

If I am going to get a replacement, I'd want to be good quality. Anyways to get an original from Sony that is new? (without buying a new PSP that is)

At this point you have nothing to lose. Pull out the ribbon cable from the ZIF connector and then put it back in, see if it works. If not then get the new screen, which you'll have to get from eBay because Sony does not sell parts to consumers.

Its cracked, maybe it flexed in your pocket or got tapped just right but it is cracked. Here is a different screen that got great reviews:Amazon.com: Sharp Sony Slim PSP 2000 Seriees System TFT LCD Screen with Backlight: Video Games its made by Sharp and thats the company that makes the OEM screens for the PSP

Wow, honestly, why is it so damn fragile? Cracking in a pocket??? Sheesh... Is the PSP 3000 any better at resistance to this stuff?

This screen that is now 'cracked' is also a replacement, although its from a shop, I didn't get the part or replace it myself, charged around... 80 bucks. This was a year and a half ago. Could this have to do with the screen being a replacement??

@Slowman - Could you explain in more detail how that would work? My PSP is currently with the faceplate off, as the picture shows, so how would I go from there to remove and re-insert the ribbon? Thanks.

(I appreciate the help you're giving me very much, thanks guys).

I cant believe a shop charged you 80 bucks to replace the screen, thats just plain robbery. Pop off the "HOME" "SELECT" "START" strip of buttons and lift off the LCD. You may have to slightly pry from one side but its not hard. once its off, just carefully flip the clips up holding the ribbon cables in the slots and remove the LCD. Dude, if your in the US, I'll do it for free and all you pay is postage to and from me in California.

Ya, I didn't realize how much a PSP LCD cost till now... How would I place the strip back after removed? Thats very kind of you, but no, its ok. I'll first see if the ribbon has anything to do with it, if not... I'll order a new one I guess. Strange thing though is, Sony won't fix my PSP. Last time it was broke, I took it to them, they said they don't do it. I had to take it to some shop...

Take your time and if possible, find a video on youtube so that you can visually follow the steps

Can you just tell me how to put the strip back after removal? I can't find any Youtube vids including that.

Are you talking about the "HOME" "SELECT" "START" strip of buttons?

It just pops off from one side. Dont bother undoing the ribbon cable clip for it, just flip it to the side

Dude I would take a bunch of hi-res pictures for you step-by-step if I had a PSP to do it with. You should watch a teardown video because it will show you step-by-step how to take one apart. If you follow the instructions backwards then you have the step-by-step to put one back together.

So wait, that means in order to put back the HOME, SELECT, START strip of buttons, I just press the strip with force back into position? And it'll cling on?
