    Hi there.

The issue I'm having is this: I have a PSP Slim (it's an Ice Silver one, if that matters) with a broken LCD screen. I also have another PSP Slim (a Piano Black one), which has been bricked and I have tried numerous times to restore, to no such luck. What I'm wondering is: would it be possible for me to remove the LCD from the bricked PSP - which, as far as I know, is working perfectly - and use it to replace the LCD on the Ice Silver one? Obviously I don't fancy forking out the money to get a new LCD if I already have one lying around, so if I'm able to do this, it'd be brilliant.

Secondly, if I am going to do it, is there anything that I'll need to know and be careful of before doing so? Are there any potential risks of replacing an LCD screen with an already used and old one? Also, seeing as this would be my very first time opening up a PSP, let alone replacing anything, does anyone have any general tips for me on doing so?

Thanks in advance to all those who can help - I need an urgent answer, and any help would really be appreciated.

Of course you can use the other LCD from the bricked PSP.

    1.Take off faceplate from PSP

    2. Lift off the "HOME" "SELECT" "START" strip of buttons by lightly prying up from the left side and then just flip it down.

    3. Lightly pry off the LCD from one side and lift the LCD off.

    4. Carefully lift up the ribbon cable clips and pull the ribbon cable free.

Ok, that's good to know. I just assumed there may be problems using an old LCD. Thanks for the video, will check it out now.

Are there any particular tools I'll need, other than a 1.5mm screwdriver, or will just that be enough to do the job?

Also, do you have any tips on actually handling the LCD screen from the other PSP, the one I want to install? That's the part that worries me most, and I'm very wary of getting dust or smudge marks or otherwise damaging the LCD whilst I'm taking it out and installing it into the other PSP. Any tips to protect against that sort of stuff?

You may find a philips screwdriver about the same size useful to pry the home bar from the sides of the screen, remember that little force is required but it can be niggly. If you remove the broken one first then that is your practice before taking out the good one, handy
Be gentle with the ribbon cables and not forcing in too hard, they will go in when they are ready. Again, you may practice on the broken one if you have difficulty.
In terms of the psp, the small left clip flips up southwards, the wide right one flips north.

Hold it around the edges. Keep it face up when putting down somewhere. If you can do this in a kitchen thats ideal because dust tends to be minimal but anywhere you do this a wiped-down clean table will reduce chance of dust and make working easier overall. Have a clean soft lint-free cloth e.g. a glasses cloth handy because there will likely be odd particles that will land on the screen and as you are about to put the faceplate on you can spot check for them and LIGHTLY brush them to the nearest side. They may reappear some more but just do til you get best possible or whats good for you.
    Good luck

Thanks for the tips. Will have a go at it soon, and will try my best to update this thread with how it goes.

Said I'd update this thread with news on how it went, so I will - although it's not good. Unfortunately I really underestimated just how fragile the smallest of the two ribbon cable sockets on the motherboard is: it didn't take much to come off completely. I'm pretty sure that will be enxt to impossible to replace on its own, without getting a new mobo. Ah well, I gave it a crack and tried my best - not much I can really do about it now except suck it up.

Of course I don't. The part is about half a centimetre small, and is held in place onto the motherboard via a single piece of, what I think is, solder. I doubt it's even possible to buy a replacement for it, and even if it was, I most certainly wouldn't bother trying to replace it out of fear of losing my insanity trying to do so. :L Just don't understand why Sony have to make these parts so small, and the whole process of repair so niggly.

Sorry I meant you have a spare mobo, but didn't take into account that its bricked so my bad. But there is a spare socket and yes it would even drive me insane. The parts are small so it can be portable and powerful. Its not meant to be user-serviceable. Sorry you lost dude.
