I just recently bought a PSP 2000. System software is shown as 5.50 GEN-D (Full), then in another section it shows this: "The system software of your PSP system is version 9.90. There is no need to update."
Even more recently, I bought Gladiator Begins, and it won't play... I get the "The game could not be started 80020148" message every time. So far, the other games I've tried to play ran just fine: Crisis Core, Rengoku, and Transformers, plus ISOs of the PS1 games Breath of Fire III and Bloody Roar 2 (both of which I physically own).
Any ideas how I fix this rather annoying problem?

Slight problem.... this is the first PSP I've ever owned. I have no idea how to do anything you just suggested. >.<
Go to this guide:http://www.pspmod.com/forums/psp-fir...made-easy.html and scroll down to section 6 and look for the GEN BYPASS on how to update from GEN firmware

Alright, cool, thanks. ^.^
Uh... I really don't know what I'm doing here. That guide seems to have been written for people who do know what they're doing. >.<
Firstly. Download this and install it. Instructions are on the page PSP® PC Update | System Updates | Support - PlayStation.com
I've already tried that one, and it states that the system is up to date and needs no update.
EDIT: It turns out I had to downgrade from 5.50 GEN-D to 5.50 OFW before I could install any other updates. Right now, 6.60 OFW is installing, just waiting for that to finish before I install 6.60 ME.
EDIT2: Awesomeness, updating to 6.60 ME did the trick, thanks.

Do you know how to bring up your VSH menu?

No, I don't. I've had this thing for maybe three weeks.
Turn on your PSP and press "SELECT" button. This will bring up your VSH menu, do this and reply back

Okay, I've now got a new menu overlaid atop the normal screen.
Scroll down to "USB Device" and change it to "Flash 0" and post back when you get that

I think I'd rather like to know what changing this option will do before I actually change it.
