i hear all the sounds when it turns on and after looking at a friends psp to see where to click to switch it to play on to tv through the component cord it works. I still see the screen light change a little bit when i press the button but its still black. Wondering if the screen is just broke or what. any advice would be nice

Definitely go with El Guapo's advice, it sounds like the ribbons are loose (take off the faceplate, see behind the screen, you'll see 2 ribbons, lift ribbon locks, push the ribbons all the way till you're sure the motherboard will pick up the current, lock it down, put it all together). Do you see anything in the screen (lines, particle dots, any form of light)?
I did all that the ribbons looked good but I took them out dusted everything, put them back in and nothing. While I had the screen out I noticed the back light was working fine. I see no damage inside either. Is it most likely that I just need new screen?
Do you have any plugins enabled?

it is a screen problem. your fuse probably blew in the psp. just send it in to sony for like $90. or you can order a lcd screen online for like $30 and put it in ur psp , i guess its the price you gonna have to pay if i want it back
I 100% guarantee you that your backlight fuse is blown. The screen is fine, everything is fine... except that one, tiny little fuse. Just bridge it with solder. What kind of PSP is it?
It is one of the old fat psp's. i have taken it all apart and have a pretty good understanding of whats what. If you could show me where this fuse and where i need to solder it that would help. thanks
it shows that there is problem related to your ribbons as it seems as they are loosed ..
or there may be problem related to your LCD which needs to be replaced
To make sure the problem is truly what I think it is, turn on the PSP and then shine a flashlight into the screen. You should be able to see the menu. If you can, then it's definitely your backlight fuse.

i am sure that your back light fuse is blown up it needs to be changed otherwise every thing is fine with your psp it just needs soldering it will be ok then
