Today at the 0x89 development forums, Harleyg have posted some cool concept images of what the PSPTouchME touch screen might look like. He also confirmed that it will use the USB port instead of the serial port. If the touch screen were to use the serial port, an audio jack would have to be present because the serial port wont be active if not.

This would lead to it having no sound, so now the touch screen will use the USB. Don't worry about the occupation of your USB, as seen on the images and written by harleyg himself, there will be a USB plug on the top of the screen (not actually on the screen it self, but you know what I mean, just look at the picture).

The touch screen may become compatible with the new 0x89 XMB Replacement Harleyg and his mighty team is creating. How cool is that?! And homebrew in the future may also become compatible! If not there would be no use.

    FAQ (updated):

    Q: What is PSPTouchME?
A: PSPTouchME is a touchscreen overlay for the Sony PSP.

    Q: How will it work?
A: It will lay over the screen like a screen protector, and connect to the PSP via USB.

Q: Can i connect my PSP to my computer when using this?
A: Yes, we will add another USB port on PSPTouchME and a switch.

Q: Will you release updates for the PIC? (microprocessor)
    A: Maybe.

Q: How much will it cost?
    A: We are estimating around ÃÆâ€℠¢ÃƒÆ’ƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ ¬ÃƒÆ’…¡Ãƒà¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚¬Ã…¡Ãƒâ€šà ƒÆ’‚£30-40 ($56)

Q: Where will i be able to buy one?
    A: Here.

Q: How many will be available for purchase on launch?
    A: At first, around 100.

Q: When can i buy one?
    A: We don't know.

    Q: Can i beta test?
    A: We have beta testers.

Q: Will this be supported in 0x89?
A: Probably, depends if we can finish PSPTouchME in time.

Q: Will i be able to use this in UMD games and in the XMB?
    A: No. (possible...)

Q: Will i be able to use it in all homebrew?
    A: No.

Q: So where can i use it?
A: In game's built to be used with this.

Q: How can they/i build a game or application to make use of PSPTouchME?
A: We will release an SIO library for developers?

Q: Will the library be open source?
    A: Maybe.

Q: How does PSPTouchME stay on the screen?
A: It screws into the top of the PSP.

    Q: Will you ship internationally?
    A: Yes.

They could split the screen down the middle....since it is wide screen. The big drawback would be that you would have to hold it longways. But how long will it take for a good ds emulator? Look how long it took to get a somewhat good emu for GBA.

But the good in a ds emu is that the spitscreen won't be actually split. Take Metroid Hunters...when it has Samus on both screens...the body split is a tad lame.

i thought of that..... holding the psp sideways. maybe they can omit the useless 2nd screen. only some games actually display anything useful in the 2nd screen

Not a good idea really....Just to name games I own or have tried: Yoshi Touch and go would be touch and gone....so long Metroid Prime Hunters And Peach. Prepare to get lost in Castlevania -DoS and Deep Labyrinth. Tenchu would be next to impossible to kill without being caught. Brain Age would become: "How good can you guess?" Guily Gear Dust Strikers would be way too cheap while the computer jacked you rom "blind spots" above. Poor Pheonix Wright would be out of a job....he can present evidence, but can't see what the case is about. How good are you at flying with a blindfold? Cause Fox McCloud might get pissd with you quickly if you keep killing him.

Do you need me to keep going? Heehee...cause I can. A lot of games let you control with the touch screen and use the other screen for the actual game. Losing one of the two would be a serious blow.

alot of games dont utilize the 2nd screen with any purpose other then stats and info. its mostly just a Ds version of a HUD. i like the games that split the action between the screens

But I find a lot more use both for a purpose. Killing one screen will kill a huge amount of games that you can play. Playing longways is the only option that makes sense.

this seems to be relativly old but i thought is share my thoughts...

as far as displaying the two screens on a ds emu, you could always show one screen at a time and use the analog stick to switch between the two screens if needed

and with all this talk about the touchme, i dont see any link
