Default How to: Determine whether or not your PSP is hackable

Hey, I have a daxter pack psp slim (2001) and it was bricked quite a while ago. since then i havent been able to get anybody to be able to unbrick it. On the table it says that mine is hackable, but is it unbrickable? I recently went to a guy who had two pandora batteries and an 8gig MMS, and he couldn't unbrick it. Basically what happened is that the psp would start up for a second and then turn off. All you could see was a little flash of a black screen coming up then going out again. So, does this mean my psp is permanently bricked?

I trully don't know. I just gave it to this guy and he came back with it bricked. Since then i've tried giving it to two other people who use pandora battery and MMS and both of them failed at it. Is there any way other than pandora battery and MMS used to unbrick a psp?

I don't think so. I believe the whole "unhackable" part means a Pandora's battery won't work on it.

I had to register to say thanks to the OP for this guide. I had been wanting to upgrade from my phat to a slim but had no idea how to get a used one and be sure it was the hackable mobo so thanks to this guide I just went and looked for the Daxter pack and got it today and used my pandora and viola all done in less than 10 minutes. Now I have to look into the 5.50 Gen ... D I believe is the latest. I've been away from the scene for a bit as you can see lol. Again great guide and thanks a bunch

Where did you find a Daxter pack? That's over a year old! I know you can still get them new on Amazon and whatnot, but I thought physical stores sold out of those long ago. March/April 2009 was the last time I saw one around here.

You make it sound as though you got yours at a store.

5.50GEN-D2 is the latest custom firmware. Supposedly it is a pretty good firmware, but I am an M33 diehard.

haha sorry if thats how it sounded like, no I got it used but from ebay but it looks practically brand new with the box and manuals and stuff. It's way easier to look for the Daxter pack then to ask every ebay seller if they remember what the firmware their slim was out of the box or even getting a serial number from them which is why I found this guide very helpful. I had just come to refresh my memory on how to tell the mobos apart so I was very happy to see the limited edition tip. On a side note, it's amazing how many parents are on ebay selling their kids PSP cause "they never used it and its just lying around so I'm selling it" lol, hell of a shock for that kid when they get home one day.

Ah yes 5.50Gen-D2, thats the one. I went away a bit and when I come back a whole new team has taken up the PSP cfw mantle it seems. So it seems Dax has retired from the scene for good this time?

Nobody is really entirely sure. He hasn't made a new firmware in almost a year now. His site is basically gone. I'd like to see another M33 firmware some time but I'm not counting on it. If he really is gone, then he went out with a bang because 5.00M33-4 and -6 were both very good, very stable firmwares.

Alek (his webmaster) did come out with a statement a few months back that D_A is not gone. Time will tell really. I personally think he's working on something else, but that's just speculation.
