    Hello Everyone!

I've been searching these posts for hours (searching the net for days), on the best way to:

    1. Make a magic memory stick
    2. Softmod my Sony 1800 mAh battery into a Pandora
    3. Install Custom Firmware

    WITHOUT bricking my PSP!!!!!

So, I am very confused and would like to compile a list of posts (or target one post) that can guide any newbie through this process on a PSP 1001.
If this already exists please redirect me to it.. PLEASE But, before you do.. I have a couple of complaints about other posts..

1.) LINKS TO FILES DO NOT WORK! - Post's are old and links don't work making it impossible to complete the steps of any guide
2.) There is no one post that I've seen that organizes the PSP guide posts by model.
3.) Post writers detail info about hardware/software that gets really confusing. (Very important to developers, but not good for a 1 stop fix-all post)
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    My PSP:=>
    Model: 1001
    System Software: Version 2.6
    Battery: Sony 1800 mAh

A lot of our guides are old with outdated links but the information still applies in most cases.

However, you don't even need Pandora or MMS anymore. Just update to 6.60 official and then run the installer for 6.60ME. BAM, custom firmware in 5 minutes.

slowman is right, these days pandora batteries and MMS are not needed to instal custom firmware. they are nice to have though bcause you can use them if your psp is bricked. other than that CFW is jus a matter of putting the right file in the right place and running it. !!!!!!!!! after all this searching!!!!

Either I'm an idiot (not out of the question) or this website needs to be revamped to direct noobs like myself directly to this info.

Could you do me a favor and provide the link to "installing CFW 6.60" for easy access to those who stumble upon this post?

Much thanks to all.. esp for the quick replies!

There's been talk of what to do about the wealth of PSP information that's been collected here since 2004. I would agree with you that there is FAR too much information to sort through and that it needs to be consolidated. At the same time though, I don't want to get rid of all this old information because it does have value. New users come here frequently though Google searches since we're quite high up in the rankings among PSP sites. A lot of the members we've been getting lately have been from far off places where English is not a first language. We get a lot of members from India, Malaysia, various Eastern European countries, etc. People in the US and "first world countries" have moved onto iPod Touches and various other new devices while at the same time PSP's are becoming more affordable in "second world countries". These folks generally don't read the threads that are stickied at the top of each forum (which is where the more current and helpful information can be found).

I don't own the site but realistically I'm here most often of the admins (we have 4 for some reason, 1 is the site owner). I can only modify certain things about the structure of the site and have a few extra rights that Super Mods don't have. I think what the site realistically needs is to have valuable older information compiled into a few threads and then the forum needs to be wiped. Then we can sort of "start over" with new information and new sections related to the upcoming PS Vita while keeping our legacy information in a dedicated subforum. Currently we just have chaos and information overload.

Pirate's guide is probably the most current but this is still a bit of information to sort through. It does cover all the basics though - http://www.pspmod.com/forums/psp-fir...made-easy.html

It isn't impossible to write a single guide but it can be difficult to have an all-in-one thread. For example, if someone is on 3.10OE-a, someone else is on 3.52M33-2, someone else is on 5.50GEN-D3, and someone else is on 6.39 official.... These will all have a different procedure to update to the latest custom firmware. It's hard to consolidate all of this into a single thread that someone can quickly search to find the answer which is what people want.

Guys I'm sorry, I told you I was a noob right?

When you say "Just update to 6.60" does that mean use the orig Sony updater that came with my machine to get to 6.60?

Also, there is SOOO much info on that PSP MODDING MADE EASY post! Can you direct me to which instructions I need to follow?
AND the link to download 6.60 LME 1.5 is down!

I saw something about Hellcat --- I just really don't want to eff this up. Thanks!

Btw.. I agree with all your comments on consolidating this site - hope you can get it done somehow

IF you get the hellcat's recovery off my psp utility zone, the 500.pbp is already in there.

The only thing I see on your post that is close to "UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE" is "Section 4. Update your PSP" which then redirects you to Hellcats under step 1. ---- this is why I was trying to use hellcats ----> Did you mean to send me to the section on Downgrading Firmware???? I'm really confused

Can you Please tell me >>>>>>>>
WHERE to get the 6.60 update (if you're going to refer me to your post, please refer me exactly to a location of text: or easier for others that read this post... send me a hyperlink! )
WHAT version will be most useful to me (CFW vs OFW) --- again a hyperlink would be great! and
    HOW to run it

I feel like I can't be as dumb as this post is making me look >>> am I really just blind or is your post not simple enough for newbies to use?

Hopefully, this is really going to help someone else in the future - and keep you guys from having to explain the same thing over and over and over

Go to the System menu on your PSP. There should be a network update option. Just choose to update over WiFi and it'll get you up to 6.60

If you don't have the network update option then go here and download it from Sony. All the instructions are right there on that page.

What? The 6.60 OFW allows things like homebrew? The whole point of me doing this was to play my old backed up PS1 games. I can do that with 6.6 OFW? Or, are you saying that I can install CFW from the 6.6 OFW?

Is there a post on here that has a clear explanation of this?
